Hi :) we have finally recieved our Packet 3 and are basically ready to request an interview. YAY! I have two children (5 & 8yo) who will be applying for K2's at the same time. However there was no information in the packet regarding the requirements/documents needed for them. I know i need to fill out a DS-160 for each of them as well as a medical. I have read on here that i need a consent letter from their father? Does any one have any info on this, examples maybe or any other info on what is required for the K2's? TIA

Yes. Search back since we've discussed what's required. Also email the Embassy and ask what they want to see. This could be a deal killer and is suggested to have this in hand prior to even filing the petition. Get moving on this.

~Instructions/requirements at this stage are often embassy/consulate-specific~

(mod hat off)

I would strongly encourage that you obtain notarized letters, 1 for each, from the children's father authorizing the children's immigration to the US. Failure to do that may result in the termination of the K2 visas for the children. The US government will not want to be involved in an international child custody case. Here is a DOS link with some general info about K2 visas: http://travel.state.gov/content/visas/en/immigrate/family/fiance-k-1.html . Consult the interviewing embassy/consulate for specifics.

During our immigration journey, my wife obtained a notarized letter from her son's father authorizing the son's immigration to the US. It was nothing fancy, just a couple sentences, straight to the point. My wife was glad that she had the letter, the US consulate in Guangzhou asked for it. In spite of the fact that my wife had sole custody of the son. It is time for you to get proactive and get rolling on this.

Good luck on your immigration journey.

I went to a lot of trouble of having to track my daughters father down (he lives in a different country to us) and a lot of expense as I used a lawyer to draw up paper work that was sent over to the UK to him. You will need a notarised letter from the father stating that he is giving his consent for the child to immigrate to the USA, he will also need to supply a photo copy of his passport which must be signed by himself and make sure this also is notarized. He will also need the child's full birth certificate to take along with him.

At my interview in Sydney this wasn't even asked for so I asked the lady interviewing me if she wanted to see it, she told me that it wasn't really necessary and that it is my responsibility if the child can immigrate (this of course could be different in your country).

The problem you might face is check in at the airport if you don't have a notarized letter, when I moved from the UK back to Australia I was asked if I had permission from the father to remove the children, i was asked to show my childrens birth certificates. Luckily he was with us so after verifying that he was indeed the father and he was aware that his children were to immigrate we were allowed to go.

All the best.

I do have their unabridged/long-form birth certificates. My ex husband and i have discussed our emigration at length and he is happy/willing to give the needed letters. I have amended a "travel with a minor" consent letter but was hoping to get an example/exact format to see if i'm on the right track. I will contact the embassy to find out what is required. Thank you all :)

A travel with consent form is not a notarized statement. A notarized statement can only be issued by a notary public. Having a travel document does not prove that the signatures are that of the father which is why they ask that it be notarized.

Yes, that's correct. He will have them signed and certified along with a copy of his passport before giving them back to me.
