Purchase airline ticket

Hello everyone

I will be flying to VN early on January. I just bought one way airline ticket last week via Singapore. Its very cheap

at 494 usd, but it is going to be a long 29 hours trips. Which I really don't mind at all, since I love flying with Singapore Airlines.

Hopefully if the interview and everything else go well then We will be united with my wife along with my daughter here in Houston.

My question is where and what is the smartest way to buy airline ticket in VN at reasonable price without being overpaid.

I understand that prices are vary depending on high or low season.

I guess most of you here have purchased airline ticket before or have it planned out everything ahead of time.

Please chime in and share your experience

with me and others.

Thanks much..

Where did you buy your ticket there? Use the same service. Buy online or through a US agency. I wouldn't trust anything in VN

Hi, fellow Texan! There are many Vietnamese travel agency there in Houston, I would check out a few. If you fly with Eva Air, China Air, Asiana, they have offices in HCMC and you can always contact them to arrange or buy tickets back to the States. I did that several times where I bought my ticket here and contact them in HCMC to change the dates. From my experience, there is not much a difference in price from the travel agency vs. online. It really is a personal preference. For me, I take several factors into consideration and that's convenience, less stress, and the price doesn't vary much. In my case I had better experiences with the travel agencies. I use them for many years so I have established a relationship with my agency. I had complicated itinuary before and I emailed and called the office and she helped me out tremendously. The convenience is a luxury, I just give the agency the range of dates I need, then the agency would monitor the prices and contact me for the least expensive. Also, for a little extra they process my visa permit as well. Hope everything works out!

Hello Jho369,

I bought ticket directly from Singapore airline after I checked out several airlines through.

I have to agreed with you 100% never trust or conducting biz with Vietnamese travel agents and all.... That is the main reason why I asked y'all opinion.

Hi Joe&Diane

Thank you very much for your respond and it's very well written and informative advices.

I think I would just make arrangement with Eva, Korean Airlines while I am in Saigon like you mentioned above, because they both offer flight to Houston without layover in other state.

Golden rule: never purchase airline ticket before you have visa in hand. Is it refundable?

Hello LionessDeon

I only bought one way ticket for myself. Wife, child myself will purchase later when visa accepted.

Hi Chris&me

I did price check with travelocity then check price with the airlines. Prices are not much of different though.

To me buying ticket directly from an airline would be better especially you could select your own seat and earn free mileage. I don't travel that much so. it is nice for those who does.

Hi WhiteDove,

It seems like you got a decent price on your airfare. I think it might have something to do with the long layover. Lately, I searched online and have only seen one-way ticket prices from SGN -> DFW for around $650-$700 with varying carriers.

You might want to consider checking out the website called Kayak.(See link below) They also provide several airline carrier pricing too. The advantage of using this website is obtaining several carrier's airfares and you get a general idea of pricing. If you do decide to go with a travel agent, you will have a price in mind to compare with the agent's price.

Hope you this helps you out.

If you are flying to the US for the first time, I think you shouldn't be too concern about the price of the ticket. Find a legitimate travel agency. I'm not sure if your spouse can buy it here and send you the ebooking but it isn't gonna be your typical cheap deal without hassle.

not true, u can buy in advance after passing the interview. just depend on how far ahead of time. i purchased 2 weeks in advance after my wife passed her interview.

***try to avoid US crappy airlines (AA and United)*** their food, services, seat, etc.. suck..everything suck.
