Question about Traveling Overseas with Green Card

Hello,

I have a general question. My wife came to the country on Feb 18th, 2015 on Spouse (CR-1) visa and her father passed away on Dec 6th, 2015 of a heart attack. She is going overseas to see the family for a month and come back.

She has her 2 year green card with her and since she is Pakistani she doesn't need visa to visit the country. However, the visa stamped on the passport is expired (because its valid for only 6 months after your approved to go to the US). Would this cause an issue when she re-enters the US, or will the Green Card on hand be enough for her?

Your wife entered the US on Feb 18, 2015 so it should be valid until Feb of 2017.

She should have no problem re-entering the US as long as she has the green card in hand.

They don't even look at your visa if you have green card. I came to US in April 2015, and I just visited Pakistan, with my green card without any problem.

Ok. Do the Pakistani entry or exit officer will look at the Green Card or only American Port of Entry employee?

They both check when you are coming back to USA. I didn't remember if they checked when I was going to Pakistan

Only last question I had that came to my mind when reading some threads.

Since my wife is only traveling with her Green Card in hand for 26 days to Pakistan does she need to file Advance Parole? I don't think she needs to but want to make sure.

the GC and passport is the only thing that she needs to enter the US, she is a LPR

Also, when coming back to Chicago Air Port will she have to stand in the long line with my mom (US Citizen) who's also traveling with her, or the machines where we scan passports will read the Green Card?

No. Advance Parole is only for people who don't have permanent residency (green card).

You are thinking about Re-entry Permit.

She'll have to stand in the respective line designated at the airport upon arrival. Most airports have designated lines for U.S. citizens, residents and visitors. Others have U.S. citizens and residents on 1 and visitors on a separate one.
