Canadian Birth Certificates

My husband (Canadian) only has a credit card sized birth certificate...He says its the only one hes ever had... Will there be a point in the Immigration process when he has to show his birth certificate... will this card thing work or should he have a paper birth certificate..Do they have paper birth certificates in Canada?... I see where we can order a birth certificate with the Register General...but will they just send another "card"...?

since Ive (weve) started the process I have a hard time sleeping. I keep thinking of things I need to ask or look up all night long..LOL

He require a LONG FORM birth certificate. its not the size that matters (really it isnt, lol) it whats on the certificate. it must have his info of course as well as his parents name and where they were born. On mine it lists both parents and place of birth list Saskatchewan! Soem provinces they are quick at issuing them, others are slooowwwww. Sk had it to me in a weekl!! I belive Ontario is a tad slower, but I'm sure someone from Ont will lead u in the correct direction.

Yup, the long form in Ontario. I don't know if it depends on what year you were born, but mine is a certified copy of what my mom filled out by hand. She made a few mistakes on it and had to scribble a few things out.

Ontario is FAST too. I ordered mine online and got it in 2 business days by xpress post (signature required).

Ontario used to be soo slow. Glad they have sped it up. recall other VJ'ers having to get the MP to assist.

I think mine was fast because I had all the matching information: Parents date of birth, place of birth, hospital, etc. Plus I don't have a common name so it matched right away.

thanks for the replies...going to have my husband get it taken care of tonight.. we recently had to get a copy of our marriage certificate and had it in our hand 5 days after we ordered it online...hopefully his birth certificate will be quick too...

I actually have a laminated Birth Certificate (which I guess they stopped doing in the mid-70's) and then thought maybe I should apply for a more recent paper copy. My parents just submitted a request that it was lost and I got the paper one in the mail. I can't remember which one I used for my forms. They're pretty much the exact same, but one is in plastic and the newer one is not...
