Forms! I think the online DS260 has replaced paper DS230, but do I still file DS2001 too?

My family is based in London and hoping to relocate to the US. Current status: awaiting my vax records so I can see what I need to get done, and then make my medical appt. Also requested police certificate so waiting for that to come.

Just looking at what forms I'll need for the actual application bit of the visa application!

Is the DS2001 just the notification of readiness for interview which I will now do online?

Is this still a good example of what is now the DS260? http://www.visajourney.com/examples/Form-DS-230.pdf

Also- will I need to submit my sponsors' forms (my Father in Law will be co-sponsoring as my husband a) hasn't lived in the US for years and b) doesn't earn enough!) with the DS260 or just have them to take to the interview?

Sorry I'm getting all confused here!

Thanks for any advice :)

Yes the DS-260 (online) is the current visa application form. Online now and not a form as such. More of a question or several and a place for a response, then click "next" or "continue" to move on through it. I kinda forget, but the material it covers is similar. It just isn't in a whole form format that you type in the boxes. It is more question/answer style.

The Readiness for Interview form has replaced what they called the 2001.

Being a DCF, your process is similar to a K1. All personal documents and affidavit of support are taken to the interview.

Thank you! Very helpful as ever Nich-Nick :)

So they don't see or review any financial info from my sponsors before the info? Seems strange!

What does DCF stand for BTW? I see that I am one but not sure what I am ;)

So... in theory I don't need to have the sponsors forms ready to submit my application? But I'm guessing it would be a good idea as otherwise I'm not really 'ready to interview' am I!

No, they review everything at the interview. You need to read these FAQs about the I-864 and domicile http://london.usembassy.gov/iv/ivfaqs_affidavit/domicile.html

Direct Consular Filing. You are filing your petition in London instead of going through USCIS in the states. You also completely skip the NVC where most spouse visa folks send in documents for review. That's why I said your process parallels a London K1 except you use DS-260 and I-864, where they use DS-160 and I-134.

London needs three things to give you an interview date:

1) DS-260

2) Your medical results

3) Your declaration that you are ready to interview because you have ALL documents in hand. That includes your affidavit of support, However they don't really know what is in hand, do they? They just don't want to faff around giving you an interview, then you show up saying I don't have this or that yet. So they ask you to let them know when you are actually ready. There have been some odd incidences or people getting an interview letter and the interview is within days, so best to actually be ready. Usually you have 3-4 weeks lead time.

Brilliant!

Super helpful.

So can I do the DS260 while I'm waiting to get all my documents together and do the medical etc? IE can there be a bit of a gap between doing that form and telling them I'm ready for interview?

Thanks again!

Correct. The readiness form does ask the date of your medical, so have an appointment arranged first. You don't have to have already attended the medical as long as you can tell them when you are going.

And don't do any of this until your petition is approved and sent over to the Immigrant Visa Unit. Same building (embassy) but very separate agencies.

Thank you- the I-130 petition do you mean? That's been approved and I've got a ref. number :) (phew!)

Thanks for placing in correct forum :)
