Can someone please tell me if they were also asked to bring to the interview a true copy of american passport of the fiance (first page where the picture and biometrics are) and where does my american fiance get this done and how is it done in USA?

He keeps asking me about it and telling me that no one else needed this on the forums, but it's written on the list of requirements for my interview. I know what a true copy means in my country but not sure what it means and how you go about getting it in USA.

Thank you

I'm not sure what's meant by "true copy", but I made a color scan of my bio page and emailed it to my fiancee as a pdf.

if it is on the list of requirements that you got from the embassy, then that is a good reason to bring it, even of no one else has had to :-)

I actually did, as part of the Affidavit of Support where I brought supporting docs (passport bio page copy for proof of citizenship, his CRBA because he was born abroad and I didnt want them confused when looking at his passport and seeing his place of birth, and then the financial stuff).

They looked at it all and put the copy of the passport bio page and his CRBA in with the filed stuff and gave everything else back.

How did he send you the copy of the passport...just a copy or was it somehow stamped by some agency or court or sth? I know what a true copy means in Slovenia- it means that you get a copy of the document and then at the city hall or certified lawyer he stamps it with a governmental stamp and you pay like 30eur per page and that's it. But apperently this is a whole another thing in USA...and this is the last thing we need so I can schedule my interview...

Sorry for the late reply - he brought it with him when he came to visit me, along with all the affidavit of support stuff, and it was just a regular copy, not notarized or anything. It did not say on my instructions to get them notarized or anything either.

Arent the instructions in English in Slovenia? In Austria everything was in English.

Sounds like "true copy" would be kind of like a notarization, and isnt that quite easy to obtain in the US? Not that I have ever done it, it is just something I heard.

If it says on your list of things to bring a true copy of his passport, then I think what I would do is get a notarized copy of his passport bio page, plus maybe the pages with the stamps on it and bring it along :-) Of course, dont quote me on that :-D

Good luck!

Or you can just contact the embassy and ask them directly, if that is an option in your country? That way you should get the most accurate info.

So I've just applied for interview date. I finally got information what a "true copy" means in USA - apparently they don't have a practice of notarizing and giving governmental approved copies as we do in EU. So it is what I thought it was, just my fiancé and his stubbornness were creating unnecessary complications.

Basically in State of Texas you either go to a notary and they're usually found at a bank, while in EU you find them in private practice like lawyers and such or they're in court or some governmental city hall. I also heard every UPS company has a notary at their offices (didn't check up on that). I think a viable option would also be going to any city hall or where ever Americans get their passports, birth certificates, marriage certificates issued.

Mene28: I received the invitation letter stating what I need to bring to the interview in Slovene, while the details of what I can expect in medical were in english. It was confusing for me for the part about true copy was in Slovene..so I translated it to Andy and asked him to get this for me...but Andy, of course, didn't know anything about true copy or notarization and such (as it seems only my stupid country wants lawyers and animals of this kind to make money off of you; for example to get court approved english translation of the paper that states that I was never prosecuted for a criminal act I paid 60eur for 2 pages and that was discount...usually it's like 70-80eur for 2 sheets of paper)....

...so I needed to contact embassy and ask them what is this about for my dearest fiance didn't believe me I really require this. And through this I've learnt that apparently each country process is different in a way...Andy kept saying...oh on Forum people say that they didn't need that...but I think if it states in my interview letter that I need this then I need it, even if it's not a widespread practice.

I've also talked to a girl from my country (got connected through the fb group and she was the only one who was actually helping me), who recently was approved and just filed their next step...and she said she was asked the same thing, but her American bf didn't have a passport so she asked if she can send an original birth certificate and they said yes...so in case you're struggling with obtaining a valid true copy in your State, just get the original birth certificate.

Good luck everyone...and best wished for 2016.

And another thing...getting anyone to pick up a phone at Ljubljana embassy was mission impossible. I called several days like 10 times per day and there was always stupid machine msg playing..so then I sent them another email to another part of the office and there they finally answered what is required.
