Hi guys,

I'm applying for a Re-Entry Permit in a couple of weeks. I was just wondering if anyone has done this before, and whether you had to provide any proof of intention to remain a resident? (eg filed income taxes etc).

Thanks,

Billy

I applied for it and got it. You don't need to provide those proof along with your initial application. However you will have to file you taxes no matter where you are. And also, make sure you have something that will attach you to the US. E.g Bank account, family, residence address....

The Re-Entry Permit means that your time outside the US is not used to determined if you abandoned your LPR status. With a Re-Entry Permit, you are still responsible for having a US domicile, file US tax returns, and meet all the other obligations.

A Re-Entry Permit is no good if you fail to maintain certain ties to the US.

No

I applied for a travel document for my wife and straight up told them I would be working in Saudi and she was going to be with me. We were out over a year and re-entered with no questions.

Please note our car, bank, credit cards, licenses, insurance, mobile phones, and permanent mailing address is still in the US and still valid.
