Brian finally got his Green Card. We looked it over and it had his birthday wrong. I understand the process of filing for a replacement I-90.

We went to the local immigration office and got a 551 stamp on his passport, the temporary, which is good for a year.

I'm wondering if, instead of filing for a replacement, can we just renew the 551 stamp near the end of the year it's good for?

Not any more of a pain to file another form, but wondering if it could just be easier to renew the temporary for another year.

No. They gave you the stamp as a temporary fix while you are waiting to get the green card fixed. Make a copy of the green card and send it off with the I-90. The sooner the better, as it can take a few months for them to get it back to you.
