My Approved K1 Visa Sent Back to Consulate???

I need help! I went to pick up my approved K1 visa from the Canada Post office in Burlington, Ontario, Canada, after instructed via email that it was ready to be picked up! However, upon arrival, they would not release it to me because my home address was not on the package, just the post office's. They said this is an error on the US consulate's part and therefore needs to be sent back to Montreal. So frustrating!!!! Has this happened to anyone else??? Getting anyone on the phone at the consulate is next to impossible, and I've been instructed to email tech support at usvisa-info.com, but what happens to my visa from here and when will I get it back????

It indeed is frustating. Can you ask them to hold it for you till you get an email reply from the consulate. Also try calling the consulate. How much time did it take for your passport to arrive here after the status went to Issued on the Ceac website?

I would flip out! Sorry to hear. I have heard several canada post horror stories in the last week, many seeming to take place near the GTA, or at least out this way. I myself will be picking up in Markham.

I dont understand why it should even have your address on it. If you are supposed to pick it up at their location, shouldn't it just be their address? It makes no sense to have yours on it in the first place, or for it to be a big deal that it isn't. Have they already sent it back? I would have asked for them to hold onto it until you were able to reach someone at the Consulate. Or asked them to contact the consulate themselves. I am sure they have direct communication somehow.

Obviously there are some kinks that need to be worked out now that they have switched to Canada post, and it just so happens those of us with recent interviews are caught in the middle. And why they made the switch before the holidays (busiest mail time of the year) just blows my mind.

Really sorry to hear about your situation. Please update when you know what is going on, sorry I can't be of better help. Good luck!

My interview was on November 25th, the visa was sent out December 2nd and arrived at the post office on December 4th. I agree that it makes no sense that my address would be on the package, after all wouldn't it be delivered to my door then and not the post office??? I understand that the confusion is probably due to the Loomis-Canada Post switch over, but it sucks to be caught in the middle and not know what to expect next! Canada Post told me that this is the 5th one they've had to send back, so why is the problem not being fixed!!! And with holiday mail traffic, who knows when I'll get it back, not to mention how long it will take for the package to get through security and back to the consulate!!! So much for spending the holidays with my fiance in Florida ?

Geeze..I've been having trouble with Canada Post for non-visa related reasons, and this really doesn't surprise me. I'm thinking it's worth the extra $20 to just have them ship it to my house. Hope you get some news soon!

maybe the canadapost worker didn't know how to properly process the visa package when you came to pick it up? like maybe they didn't realize that it wouldn't have your address on it? :( this stresses me out a lot, especially as it gets closer to Christmas I can only imagine the post office getting worse.

My fiancee is going to pick hers up tomorrow at the Brampton PO. I told her about this thread and she said she wasn't worried, as she has had Canada Post give her grief over mis-addressed things before, and basically if you have proper ID and are insistent enough, they will give you the package. It could just be this particular post office, as another user mentioned in the "Waiting for our passports" thread that they picked up their visa with no problem from the Markham PO (I think)

The switchover happened the day after her visa was issued (a week after our interview), so we didn't have a chance to change post offices or request home delivery. I know we would have done home delivery... $20 is much better than the $50? or more Loomis was charging. Plus if you miss the delivery, it will go to your local post office for pickup instead of one of the few that the embassy offers as a choice.

I will update tomorrow with how it goes. I'm really hoping for no issues, as we are attending a wedding in Michigan this weekend (attempting a crossing without using the visa), so we really need her passport for that!

Hi, it actually only took 4 days from Issued for it to show up at the post office; she just hasn't been able to get out to Brampton to pick it up yet.

Issued was Monday, got emails from the consulate and Canada Post on Tuesday with the tracking number, and it was ready for pickup on Thursday.

My interview was on November 25th, the visa was sent out December 2nd and arrived at the post office on December 4th. So much for spending the holidays with my fiance in Florida ?

I have no doubt you will be able to spend the holidays with your fiance! There is still plenty of time left:) did they give you a return tracking number, etc? Were you able to express ship it back?

We had our interview Nov 16, we were approved but given a 221g. I sent the additional document in as soon as I had it in my hands (nov 23) and I am still waiting. So I feel your pain. We have a booked wedding in New York on the 18 of December.. 10 days away... I've lost hope!

Judging from recent timelines, you and I should definitely have it by the holidays, just maybe not as soon as we would have liked:(

Good luck, keep us posted!

I was just printing out my interview/courier confirmation details, and it says there that you can only change courier address until 6am the day of your interview, so it's too late to change now, unfortunately.

IMHO this is a training issue with Canada post locations. Likely the switch from DHL happened now due to contract issues, not because they wanted to change at the busiest time of the year.
