Hey members of the forum.

My husband want to have some holidays in February, but do to my immigration status (still waiting for green card) we can only stay in US. Maybe someone have any ideas for holidays in continental US? Which state (city) could you recommend, would be nice warm one.. Now first in list is Florida, but it would be interesting to visit something new. I know Google is my friend, but it's always interesting to hear from others too.

hi! i am waiting for my removing of conditions done ( i applied in March, 24). so, my 2 years green card was expired in June. even though i have the extension letter saying that my green card is valid for till June 2016 i do not want leave the country without REAL green card. the problem is not US border but foreign airlines and check points . they often refuse to border travelers provided with the extension letters. SO, we are going to American Virgin Islands, to St.Jones. it is US territory . Google the travel regulations there. it might be an option.

We tried to Google regulations about territories, but even official sites give information that can be interpreted differently, so we decided to stay in continental part of US..

Hawaii is always an option. Not continental US, but don't need a green card or anything to travel there. The big island is amazing!

We've been to Hawaii a couple of times, and it definitely feels like "not america" if you're at the resorts and want a beachy seaside type holiday. The country side is beautiful on Maui (the only island I've visited there).

I live in California - it's consistently warm and nice here (we're having our "winter" now in San Francisco which just means a bit of rain for a couple of days). Driving south down the 101 is very pretty, and I will never say no to a Napa/Sonoma trip - it's really lovely up there. We can pretty much drive in any direction (except West - the pacific gets in the way ;) ) and feel like we're on a sunny holiday.

I've always wanted to do a coastal road trip - I'd like to go down the length of the East Coast, having only really visited the New England parts so far on that side. Wouldn't mind a trip to New Orleans, either.

What sort of thing do you like to do on a holiday? We might be able to think of better suited ideas!

There are so many beautiful, amazing places in the US but if you're looking for a beach and sightseeing in February, I'd suggest Miami. You have the beach, sightseeing, great food, you can take a drive down to Key West.

If you can go without the beach, Las Vegas is pretty awesome with shows, sightseeing, great food and great shopping. And you can throw in a day trip to Grand Canyon. :)

Even south Texas can get chilly in February, or I'd suggest South Padre Island.

For this time of year, the Florida Keys or Hawaii come to mind.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

74F here today in LA, a little overcast but very pleasant. I drove to work with the convertible top down. We have beaches. We have amazing food. We have canyon trails for hiking. Many areas are surprisingly not only walkable, but more enjoyable on foot (Santa Monica and Downtown come to mind). Tons of museums (new Broad Museum just opened to rave reviews), live music, theatre (more theatres than New York City, believe it or not), etc. Shopping don't suck either. Only real downside is you will need a car unless you make a commitment to public transport taking forever, or if you opt for Ubering everywhere. Everyone loves to hate on LA but that's fine -- more of it for us. :D

I agree.

I like exploring things, going to for sightseeing, trying new foods, and my hubby needs a beach for holiday, he likes sun a lot :)

You'd like the big island then. There are beautiful beaches but you need a car to get around and there are 4 different climates just on the big island. The Kona side is desert like with some trees going up into the mountain. The North end is where there are ranches and you can go on the best horseback rides. The Hilo side is a rainforest with waterfalls. The south is where the volcano is. On Mauna Kea there is an observatory you can go visit.

I recommend doing a VRBO or something vs staying in a resort. You tend to save a lot of money by renting a place to stay.

*Hawaii ;)

Flights aren't so bad as long as you book ahead of time. You can get them as cheap as $500 roundflight. Sometimes it pays to drive to the nearest LARGE airport.

For instance, my father in law lives in Alabama so you would think it would be best to fly to Birmingham. But in truth, Atlanta is just as far away to drive to his house (2 hours) and the flights can be up to $400 cheaper per person but are generally about $200 less per person. Now $400 more than covers the cost of the car we would have had to rent anyhow.
