I-485 mailing

I am sure that this might be a stupid question, but I have read the info on the I-485 form and am not quite sure where I fit in. I am almost positive that I need to send my forms to the lock box in Chicago, but I guess I just want confirmation from everyone.

My case: Came over from South Africa, to the state of New York on a K1 visa. Will be getting married on St Patricks Day, going away on honeymoon and then will file as soon as we get back.

Another question, how do we get our marriage certificate as soon as possible. Do we ask them to put a rush on it or any ideas?

Send it to the Chicago lockbox, the address is in the instructions on the form! Good luck

Where to File Everything:

Applicants are required to mail applications to a national mailbox (Chicago) as stated on the form (not your local USCIS office). The only case in which you may file at a local office is for the following locations: Dallas District Office, El Paso District Office, and the Oklahoma City Sub Office. Please read this notice if your local USCIS office is any of these locations.

You will send your I-485 to Chicago lockbox address.

You can try asking the person who marries you (priest, judge, etc.) to give you the signed marriage certificate after the ceremony. The person who marries you normally mails the certificate into the court house, and they are processed on an as-received basis, which can takes weeks. We took the marriage certificate into the court house ourselves the next business day and received our certified marriage certificates while we waited. We live in Washington state, so I'm not sure if this is possible in your state, but it's worth a try. We were able to request as many certified copies as we wanted, for $5.00 (or possibly even less, I can't recall now) each. You should request more than one copy, as you may need it for other purposes.
