Obama's Address to the Nation RE: K1 Visa

So after Obama addressed the nation on Sunday night, what does this mean for K1 visa applicants? Are only people in Arab countries going to have a more difficult time, or everyone? I feel as though they should be looking at people travelling to IS territory/ Saudi Arabia, and arriving home - more than just K1 visa applicants as a whole! If the terrorist had come on CR-1, they would probably would be looking more at that. Terrorists can come from anywhere, even withing the U.S. - people can even become radicalized online. Honestly, I feel as though the I-129f/K1 visa process is extremely thorough as it is, with the background and criminal checks, I wonder what else they will need to do - but I assume the process will now take much longer than 5 months. And probably way more denials will ensue. I know that nobody has any answers right now, since this is so new, but hopefully soon we will. I guess I'm just concerned and would like to start the discussion.

Just want you to know that this global issue is not contain or related to arabic countries only.. for example the number of fighters from Russia specially from Chechnya who have joined this evil group has increased over 300% in past 12 months (after Tunisia and Saudi Arabia Russia is the third country in export of terrorist fighters to join this evil group) ... So if the US government decides to have more comprehensive background check, which I think they should do, it should be apply to everyone regardless of the country of origin... but regardless of this issue president was talking about modifying the visa waiver program rather than K1 visa...

One news report stated the couple may have gotten married in SA before leaving there

Hold up did they just say that they show no evidence this woman showed up for her K1 Visa Interview. They show a no show and don't see where she was rescheduled.

Oh Boy can we say a major in house at the embassy scam here. We need to stay on this story cuz the world outside has no idea what this means.

You hear all the time the backroom payoff's and people paying "Extra" to get visas. Oh boy.

I know right! I heard this on the news too and was like, okay either the reports got this completely wrong, or she paid someone off! Now people think that you can get a K1 visa without an interview  if that were the case.. why am I spending a thousand dollars to go be with my fiance for his!! Now I feel tempted to read the Islamabad Embassy reviews... see if people said "Oh yeah, you don't even have to show up.." Not!! They are honestly probably so strict there. But I'm confused as to whether she had hers done in Pakistan or SA. And also its the fault of USCIS and NVC for not doing sufficient checks on her before even getting to the embassy...but how do you check for people who support terrorist groups in a background check? Maybe they'll need to start hiring P.I.'s for each applicant... this visa is gonna get expensive! hahaha

They are suppose to be checking those passports and travel documents. I have read many who had to show every where they have traveled for the last 10 years. It seems very suspect.

I've had messages and a couple of phone calls today from seven people I know very well, asking "isn't that the Visa you came in on"? Sounded more like an accusation really, and less of a question.

Seriously? Yes in fact, I did arrive on that Visa. Would you like to come and check out what I've got stowed around the house?

I think it will get harder, at least for a time, in a sort of a knee jerk reaction of the oh-my-goodness-we-screwed-up-and we-better-be-seen-to-be-doing-something ilk.

I'm glad I'm done with the nonsense, until my 10 year green card wants renewing. I do feel for those who are, or will be, attempting to get through the system now.

I am with you there. When I hear the media shaming the process, a process they know nothing about, it is like, really? Do not paint us all with the same brush!!

Here is the way I see it. There have been many thousands of K1 visas approved and there was ONE incident like this as a result and many people believe we should end K1 visas (sadly including some of my own family). On the other hand no one blinks an eye at the fact that our Southern border is wide open which allows many violent felons to come here uncheked and commit violent crimes. It seems to me that is a much bigger threat to us than people who want to come here and get married and be in the system paying taxes and following the law after background checks and jumping through government hoops. Me and my fiance were considering filing for a K1 visa. We have now decided to get married first and file for a CR1 visa so we can have a wedding for her family before she comes here. I hope the stupidity and sheer ignorance of many Americans (including most politicians) doesn't affect our CR1 visa application which we plan on filing after we get married in February. I also hope it doesn't affect the thousands of other couples attempting to do things the legal way by filing for K1 and CR1 visas. In my opinion more effort should be made to stop people from coming here illegally and make things more streamlined for people trying to follow the law. The numbers show illegal aliens pose a far bigger threat to our national security than legal immigrants do.

Yep!! It is the "illegal" immigration and open borders that are the biggest threat to National Security. It pisses me off that so many people come here illegally and somehow manage to stay, yet we jump through hoops, pay out our butts, wait, wait and wait some more for the whole process so that we can be legal, and sometimes it feels like the "illegals" have more rights that we do. Then to top it off, one incident with the K1 Visa and people want to end it!!:huh:

What?

What rights are illegals given that you are missing out on?

Also no one EVER said anything about ending the K-1 process all together. That's ridiculous.

We were talking about that on the other thread on this topic too.

What we surmised is that they did the religious ceremony nikah in KSA or Pak (heck, even the Internet) and that's why the family was saying they had been married for two years (when she actually arrived on a fiance visa last year) and why she would have traveled with him. Believe me, there is no way this couple would have traveled together if they didn't consider themselves married.

While I believe in Pak a nikah is legally binding, in KSA, it seems that you need to register it with the courts (based on my research on the Riyadh USEM site), so they could feel married without being 'legally' married. The way I see it, they lied on their immigration papers and entered the US illegally, then chose to murder my American people rather than immigrating to KSA and leaving us the khell alone!

I said "it feels like they have more rights than we do". I never said that they did. I'm not going to get into sanctuary cities and amnesty. Just saying. We live in a state on the southern border. Enough said.

And yes, there is talk of ending family immigration visas. At least - it is going to be looked at. This next presidential election will delve into it, I am sure.

My two cents on this topic of K1 shaming is that neither this vile POS couple nor the ridiculous show 90 Day Fiance (that I can't stop watching so I can refute it's stupidity when my friends and family come at me) have done ANYthing for the validity of our situation.

I find it especially disheartening to have fought the legal vs illegal immigration battle all these years only to be put on the firing line like this and make it out to be less than what it really is, what we all know it is.

Also, as I posted on FB to my people, it doesn't matter how much you vet someone, you can NEVER vet what's in a persons heart. As long as they have a clean record they can be the most evil human to walk the earth and still not show up on the radar.

No. Seriously. He was talking about the K1. He misspoke. This has been explained multiple times. The are ALSO talking about modifying the visa waiver program (there's a bill in Congress about that this week) as a result of the Paris attacks. But his speech was specifically about the K1, and he make a big mistake and put the word "waiver" into "this visa program". It has been corrected in the official transcript and there have been hundreds of news articles about it, at least one linked here.

And yes, Russia will be swept up in this. The Boston Marathon bombers were Chechen.

Marriage/ AOS Timeline:

23 Dec 2015: Legal marriage

23 Jan 2016: Wedding!

23 Jan 2016: "Blizzard of the Century", wedding canceled/rescheduled (thank goodness we were legally married first or we'd have had a big problem!) :sleepy:

24 Jan 2016: Small "civil ceremony" with friends and family who were snowed in with us. December was a bit of a secret and people had traveled internationally and knew we *had* to get married that weekend, and our December legal marriage was nothing but signing a piece of paper at our priest's kitchen table, without any sort of vows etc so this was actually a very special (if not legally significant) day.
