AOS name

Hello everyone.

In my passport, visa and I 94 this is the display of my names :

Surname:AAAA (my father name) BBBB

Given name:CCCC DDDD (both of them first name).

For the k-1 petition in all the forms I write BBBB as my middle name.

My question is: what is the meaning of surname here in US?Should I use all my two surname as last name in the marriage lincense?orjust the AAAA ( father name)

In all the AOS forms should I replace all my surname (AAAA BBB) by my husband last name or should I just replace my father name (AAAA) by my husband name?

Please help

Since your married already its as simple as this:

Your surname before ( which is your father's surname too) will be your middle name now and your surname here in USA now is your husband's surname. And you will be using that in all your documents from now on including in filing up the i-485 .

Goodluck!

Ah the joy if putting your full name into the "correct boxes". My husband had the same dilemma and here is how it worked out for him.

Let's imagine his name is John Mark Smith (from his mom) Jones (from his dad). John is his official first name, Mark his middle, and Smith Jones his surname (last name).

Of course, that is what it has on his greencard but his work auth card had it differently. I think it was John Mark as his first, Smith as his middle, and Jones as his last name. Thankfully the work auth became void after the greencard arrived.

And God only knows what's what on his drivers license and SS card. ;) Suffice it to say that we still have a laugh or two on a regular basis when it comes to his name.

And our situation was easier than yours since neither of us changed our names. I don't envy you. Fortunately I think you can be creative when choosing your name.

As for how last names work in the US, most people only have one (their father's last name). That makes it a lot easier to figure out what name to drop if you change your name when marrying.

Hope some of this helps and good luck!

Thank you all.

If I consider my surname ( both of them) as my last name and my given name (both of them) as my first name.how can I do when I fill AOS forms if I want to keep all my names and add my husband name?

Most American women drop their own surname ( last name ) in favor of their spouses. so Mary Jo Jones becomes Mary Jo Smith. Some women want to keep their former identity in some form so they hyphenate the 2 last names together so the woman becomes Mary Jo Jones=Smith . In the US you can do whatever you please as long as there is no intent to defraud or impersonate someone else.

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.

Do you mean BBBB is your mother's maiden name that's why you write it as your middle name right ?

Well in my case, i don't used my mom's anymore. For example:

Lisa May ( your Name) Santos ( your Middle Name/your Mom's maiden name) Chen (your Surname)

In I-485:

Lisa May (NAME) Chen (MIDDLE NAME) Stephen (SURNAME/your husband's surname)

Well that's what I do...hope it helps you ?

What if you put both your given names as your first name, both names of your current surname as your middle name, and your husband's name as your new last name? In the end, their system might not accommodate all the letters, but it's worth a try.

It's not too long? They will accept two middle name, two first name and one last name? Edited by EP&PE

No BBBB is not my mother name

In my passport and visa I have 2 surname:AAAA BBBB and two given name: CCCC DDDD.Does it mean that normally I don't have a middle name?
