Hello,

I am trying to help my wife bring her son her from China.

I have a few questions.

First - Collecting Financial Documents

(I have completed an affidavit of support form)

Financial Evidence

  • Do I have to get an IRS Tax Transcript? Can I just use my W-2 & Tax Return?

I guess this is just one question...maybe 2.

Thanks for the help.

Hi FxLab.

Tax Transcripts are preferred. They prove that you actually filed your taxes, as the information comes directly from the IRS.

But...if you do not have transcripts, or you cannot get them in time, you may submit a signed copy of your tax return (all pages), plus copies of your W-2, and any other documentation of your income. For example, you might have a small salary, but you have substantial interest. Then you'd need to be sure your 1099s were also attached.

It takes 2-4 weeks to get a transcript. Best to get them, if you can.
