Well I'm not sure I do meet the requirements because I hear you have to add 5000 for an additional person. So we're going to be a household of 2 and my income it $29k. Do I qualify to be a sole sponsor? Thank you everyone

Yes you do.

And if all of that is income you can show on one or more w2s then you can use the I-864EZ

Thank you so much. I've only had this job for a year and before that, I wasn't working. Does that matter? I was only going to get a joint sponsor just to be on the safe side

It should be fine. Especially if you have at least 1 tax year under your belt (get those taxes done ASAP!) My husband had only been working for 6 months and it was fine. He had been unemployed for almost a year before that, and was in the military before that. But I'm going to bet he's a bit older than you. ;)

A person using a joint sponsor will not qualify with their own income which is the key factor in why they cannot use the I-864EZ. However, I see why you read it the way you do.

However I agree with you on the second point; if someone qualifies as a sponsor, why is a joint sponsor being supplied?

Well it doesn't say that the petitioner has to "qualify with their own income", only they they are "using" their own income.

My question is regarding sponsorship. I earn $29k annually and my household will consist of my husband and I. The household income for 2 is 19k and I believe you are supposed to add about 5k for every member which takes us to over my annual income.

I've only had this job for one year and I'll file my tax returns. I really didn't work the previous 2 years.

Do you advise I get a joint sponsor?

Thank you so much!!

You should be fine without a joint sponsor since you qualify without. :)

I would ask someone to be a joint sponshor just in case and present the joint sponsors paperwork at time of the interview if they ask for it. I was in a similar situation and was put under administrative review/AP, they gave me a 221g form asking to submit a joint sponsor and all the paperwork that goes with that.

(have a plan B, is all Im saying).
