Hi everyone,

I have a quick question.

I'm from Turkey and I got married to a US Citizen. I just received my Green Card.

My question is;

When can my brother who lives in Turkey, apply for the Green Card?

- Can he already apply

or

- Does he need to wait 3-4 years till I become US Citizen?

You have to wait until you become a US Citizen to apply for him. It's about a 13 year wait currently for siblings of USC.

I'm far from an expert in this subject but I was under the impression you had to be a citizen to bring over family.

"To petition to bring your sibling (brother or sister) to live in the United States as a green card holder, you must be a U.S. citizen and at least 21 years of age. Permanent residents may not petition to bring siblingsto live permanently in the United States.Apr 1, 2011"

- So after becoming US. I can apply for him. But he needs to wait approximately 12 years to enter USA. Am I right?

What happens if he enters as a tourist after I become US can he get a work permit right away or does he still needs to wait those 12 years?

There is no way for him to get a green card/work permit for you until you are a citizen and he waits for a visa. Currently people that applied 13 years ago are being processed. In the future that wait could be short ( doubtful ) or much longer or that class of visa may not exist. He can't come on a tourist visa and overstay because then he would have a ban from being here.

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.

12 years sounds optimistic. Nobody knows exactly how long.

Toursits do not get work permits, he has to leave within his allotted time.
