I agree on preparing for the tax return to be smaller. Not only that, but CAD to USD is pretty rough right now.

In this case, while it is expensive, like others have said, you had to have shown you could support your fiance by making well over the poverty line which means ya'll don't qualify for any aid or fee waivers as you SHOULD NOT be financially unsound. If you used a cosponsor, to the government, if you can't afford to do it, you should be looking at your cosponsors. Saving up 1000$ over the year it took to get the fiance visa shouldn't have been an issue..

Chances are, you're just going to have to AOS late in Feburary.

I saw you guys attempt at doing a gofundme account for this last night, assuming that either ya'll deleted the thread or VJ did, but make sure for ROC that ya'll plan ahead of time so you don't run into this issue again.

This is everything I wanted to say but couldn't find the tact and poise to. Listen to what Ash is saying please and try to do what you can to get your financials in order or you will have trouble down the line.

Always think GoFundMe can be a bit odd, especially for foreseeable expenses.

They were also asking about Medicaid which makes me wonder.

This thread is a good warning to people.

Be prepared for ALL the expenses for immigration.

Not just the petition and visa costs, but also the medical, moving costs, extra expense of having a larger household, AOS for K1 people, and some savings. If the CR1 person can't find a job for a while, it doesn't mean they aren't trying either. But if you can't live off of a one income household then perhaps you should rethink the immigration process. It might mean spending more time apart but if you're financially stable it's better to wait. No one can live off the poverty guidelines. They're ridiculously low. Even two people making $10/hr, working full time, will have a hard time making ends meet and save anything for emergencies. Especially not in certain states where the cost of living is much higher.
