same can be said about firearms

and i've never said that we should not maintain the right to own guns. i've only said that we should try to limit gun access to those who will misuse the right and potential inhibit others' freedom. it's like when politicians immediately say, 'if a cc had been at 'insert shooting incident' maybe so and so would be alive'..completely ignoring the fact that the dead person had a right to not cc, they have a right to life without arming themselves.

They're already hard at work on that.

So, it begins?

Bill Summary

The clown is just seeking recognition. The bill would never become law or even make it out of the committee. Knee jerk reaction doesn't ever fix anything.

LOL thanks for fixing. Yes, he wants the program suspended until a national security risk panel can review it & report its findings to Congress. If that happens, expect at least a 2-5 year suspension. He will likely not find any support for this. He's apparently just trying to get national recognition. I say that because I didn't know he existed until today & I've lived in TX my whole life.

Hahaha. Yeah maybe just trying to get reelected.

Well to be honest, I will not take granted the fact that this bill will not get supported at all, because a lot of people out there are angry and need a pagote for their fears, and I can't blame them after what happened in San Bernardino.

That exists another threats that K-1 visa immigrants? of course, but was a K-1 visa holder that was radicalized and that it's the issue in the spotlight that can get a lot of support.

i heard something interesting on NPR yesterday - and it's this:

The FBI and DoS stopped doing FB and email checks in 2014, by mandate. Prior, they did many. I keep hearing about 'mandatory FB reviews' in conjunction with that report, but I can't place the content.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

Hello guys!

It's on the news that the woman shooter on San Bernardino Shooting is holding a Pakistani Passport and entered the US thru K1 Visa...

I just hope and pray that it doesnt affect all of us who are going through the same process.

Praying for the victims and their families...

:(

all? nah, not all.

However - there's a small subset that will get extra scrutiny - ie -

Folk from Pakistan that lived elsewhere and

Folk in the MENA zone that lived elsewhere ...

I don't think that applies to you, right? Unless you are in the Muslim area of the PI and have been 'travelling' for a while, not an overseas foreign worker into UAE, Qatar or Saudi Arabia ?

Darnell do you mean this leaked report that came out today referring to an idea they had in 2011, but one they decided not to do?

There are a lot of Filipinos/Fillipinas that work in these countries that aren't Muslim.

I really hope they don't suspend the K-1 visa. While many others could just make due with getting married and applying through the spousal visa (which would put a strain on the already overworked NVC), we would have been without a way. UAE, a neutral country to both of us, does not allow marriage between two non-residents. Turkey was an option, but getting him a Turkish visa would be nearly impossible. India takes a long time to process marriage applications, making the K-1 just about the only way we could get together without getting decapitated, exploded, robbed or otherwise assaulted.

Yes we are past that stage :) I think our AP time was decent length and another Facebook group we were following suggested the Kabul USEM was sending the Afg passports to the Afg DOFA for verification. I feel like the USEM did a lot of checking in our case, but I have been surprised at many cases not getting scrutinized at all. I suppose that lack will change - especially for women beneficiaries.

Even more so after marriage.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).
