Just announced, seems the background checks were not that good.

Background checks don't catch first-time offenders either. Perhaps she had no priors.

Here's some things that don't make sense to me.

Now first reports I hear is that she entered July 2014 with her K1. Reckon that means they were processed via fast-track CSC.. (uh oh).

And yet other reports state he went to collect her and marry her just this spring from her country of origin.

So which is it? Did she enter on a K1 in 2014 and overstay and not marry until they had an ''uh oh'' baby this year and got married in the spring?

Did they ''marry'' in her country of origin and still obtain a K1 and commit visa fraud?

Did she go through any sort of adjustment process or was she actually in the country illegally?

Certainly applicants coming from these countries are typically placed in a long process of background checks and AP. So, how'd they get through? Especially if since they are saying the government has a record of his communications with known very bad individuals both overseas and at home.

Boggles my mind.

Arguably my guess would be the media does not understand the difference in Visa types, and watch 90 day fiancee. They probably think everything is a K1

i'm thinking that unless you go through the process, you've no clue how it works. so what we have are a bunch of journalists/people that knew her rattling off whatever when they have no clue what they're talking about. sort of like how you never see k1 visa's represented properly in tv and movies..

whoa (we agree). swear i didn't see this post before i hit reply

Information regarding a K1 and her date of entry was reported by the FBI.

Think we're going to find out not only was the visa obtained by fraud but that she was overstaying (nor fulfilled the terms of the K1 legally).

I believe that in their minds the visa fraud was allowed as long as the end justified the means.

K1 was not from journalist, FBI.

NY Times has a timeline that seems to understand the process a bit more:

Mr. Bowdich said that Mr. Farook visited Pakistan last year, and that he and Ms. Malik entered the United States from Pakistan in July 2014. She traveled on a Pakistani passport and entered the United States on a K-1 visa, a 90-day visa given to fiancés planning to marry Americans. The couple applied on Sept. 30, 2014, for a permanent resident green card for Ms. Malik, which requires passing pass [sic] criminal and national security background checks using F.B.I. and Department of Homeland Security databases, and she was granted a conditional green card in July 2015.
