Hey everyone!! Congrats on your EAD approvals.

I just wanted to give you all a heads up when you apply for your SSNs.

Make sure you wait 10 full days from the date that your EAD says it was issued, so that the social security administration has the updated records from DHS. That way your number will be generated immediately and you'll have your card in less than a week.

If you go before the 10 days are up, you will still be able to apply, but they have to manually verify your EAD which can take some time. It took me nearly three weeks to get my social.

Hi, thanks for your input cantofla! Really informative.

Do we need the SSN before starting to work or EAD is sufficient?

You're welcome!

You need the actual SSN before starting work. Although the letter you get from the social security office states you technically don't "need one" before starting work, as long as your EAD is valid, not many companies hire you without the SSN :( .... I wasn't even able to apply for most places before I got my SSN

Not sure if you have a PA driver's license/ID card yet, but you will actually need the SSN before getting that too since the EAD makes you eligible for one.

Ok thanks!

Yea i still need to get a State ID and I was told I need to get the EAD first. So I will wait 10 days to apply for SSN after EAD is issued and after I get my SSN I will apply for a State ID.

Still a lot to do but these things need to be done ?

Thanks again for your info!!

Yep - you need the EAD and SSN to apply for the state ID card (unless you are currently on a visa that allows you to get it)

My interview is scheduled for April 4th!! I definitely didn't expect it this soon so this is a nice surprise. No news on my I-765 yet but I'm faxing out the supporting documents for my expedition claim today.

You already have your interview date, that's great!

This shows how the process can vary from a person to an other. Some people receive their EAD and wait for the interview for a very long time... Others have their interview really fast and almost at the same time the EAD.

Good luck with the your expedition claim.
