I have my interview set for the first week of January and I was just reviewing the list of things needed for the interview. I have everything we have ever done in a folder that I will be taking with me.

But I need some help with acouple of the items they talk about on the list:

1. Form DS-230 (175KB PDF), parts I and II, or Confirmation Page of the electronic form DS-260. - If I go to the page for the DS-260 its asks for the following info:

Case Number: Is this out MTL number?

Invoice ID Number that the National Visa Center sent you: Not sure what this number is or where I would find it?

I am the: Applicant or Petitioner - This one messes me up all the time. My Fiance who lives in the US is bringing me to the US. The person who lives in the US is the Petitioner and I would be the applicant correct?

2. Copy of the U.S. petitioner status in the USA. - What do I need a copy of? Birth Certificate? Passport copies? As we have all this since it was part of the original application.

3. Copies of documents proving petitioner's U.S. domicile - What documents do I need copies of to prove petitioners US Domicile?

Thanks Everyone.

What list are you looking at?

Ds-230 was the paper version of the DS-260 and is no longer used. You do not need proof of citizenship or LPR status for the petitioner at interview either. The only reason you would need domicile proof is if the petitioner had been living in Canada.

You are the beneficiary and applicant. The US spouse/fiance is the petitioner.

This is what I am going from for my Interview on what I need to bring with me: http://montreal.usconsulate.gov/visas/visas/immigrant-visas/appointment-checklist.html

So the 3 things I posted I don't need for my interview?

Is there a detailed list of what I should bring with me - ie. forms, documents and copies of stuff?

Thanks

A copy of the petitoner's passport bio data page and copies of any documents showing their lease/mortgage and job in the US should suffice for domicile and status.

Thanks - We have all of that info as it was in the application originally so I think we have everything we need.

Evidence of Support: They list a bunch of different documents. Are they all needed or just one of them? Evidence of Support (I-864, I-864A, I-864EZ, I-864W) and photocopy of IRS transcript or photocopy of the most recent Federal income tax return.

If you're doing K1 you don't do the I-864. Montreal has a lot of wrong information on their actual gov website, and VJ hasn't really updated anything related to Montreal.

I'm going to assume that you're planning a head of time.

You JUST recieved your NOA2 today.

Give it about a month to get through the NVC and a few more days to get to Montreal. Once you get your case number from the NVC you can track your case on the CEAC website found here: https://ceac.state.gov/ceac/

Once you see that montreal has recieved the case, wait a few days and then send an inquiry here to find out if they have LOGGED the case. If they have no logged the case, you can not proceed with sending packet 3. Inquiry form here: http://canada.usembassy.gov/contact/public-inquiry-form.html

Once you have CONFIRMED they have logged your case, either via inquiry or waiting for the hard copy of packet 3 in the mail, you can follow the packet 3 instructions and send it to them.

Once you complete packet 3, you will get an email that IS packet 4. The packet 4 email lists everything to bring, everything listed in the packet 3 checklist is also what you want to bring.

Packet 3 pdf file is found here: http://photos.state.gov/libraries/canada/303578/montreal/Packet3-K1-MTL.pdf

The packet 4 email details everything you need, in an updated fashion as it's the email that gives you permission to do everything. It is the last form of contact you will have between you and the consulate, they list everything you need, what you can and can't bring, how to pay the fees, schedule everything, etc.

The email you will recieve is the most accurate form of packet 4. There is nothing more accurate found online, aside from the pdf file below, which since is less frequently updated, can easily become inaccurate.

Here is the packet 4 email in pdf form. http://photos.state.gov/libraries/canada/303578/montreal/Packet4-MTL.pdf

The exact list from my fiances packet 4 email (The email is much much longer, I omitted most of it):

"The day of your interview

Please bring to your interview the original and one photocopy of each of the following documents (as applicable), for each applicant:

¾ The appointment letter showing the date and time of your interview

¾ Passport valid for at least 6 months beyond the date you plan to enter the United States

¾ Birth certificate

¾ Adoptions decree (s)

¾ Marriage certificate (s)

¾ Death and/or divorce certificate(s)

¾ Police certificates from each country in which the applicant has resided for one year or longer. The certificate(s) must be issued within one year of the date of the visa appointment. NOTE: An applicant must present a police certificate from his/her country of current residence and country of nationality, if residence in such country exceeds 6 months

¾ Court records

¾ Military records

¾ Evidence of domicile in the United States

¾ Job offer letter (for employment-based visas)

¾ Affidavit of support (I-134) (for fiancé, employment and DV visas)

¾ Evidence of support (I-864, Federal individual income tax return for the most recent tax year)

¾ Medical examination

¾ Two photographs (in color)

¾ For K visa applicants, a letter of intent to marry signed by the petitioner within 30 days of interview date

Please ensure you bring all the requested documents. Missing documents will delay processing of your visa application

If you have questions regarding the documentation needed or are unable to obtain a required document before the date of your interview, please contact us at Montreal-IV-DV@state.gov or http://canada.usvisa-info.com

Address: The U.S. Consulate General is located in downtown Montréal, at 1155 rue St-Alexandre, Montreal, Quebec, H3B 3Z1 (between Boulevard René Lévesque and Rue Ste-Catherine).

Please note that all visitors to the U.S. Consulate General in Montréal are screened by U.S. Consulate security prior to entry. Screening includes inspections via a walk-through metal detector, a hand-held metal detector and an x-ray machine for personal items.

Just as a note: Your timeline shows that you sent your I-129F in 2014 and it was approved in 2014. You may want to change that to 2015! If it is 2014, what took a year to complete all this? The processes have changed a little.

Second:

You said you've already scheduled your medical and it's in 10 days? Are you K1? Have you gotten your packet 3? Done that and recieved your Packet 4 and scheduled your interview?

You're suppose to schedule your interview first, AFTER completing packet 3 and the DS-160, and reciving packet 4 from the consulate.

The consulate can and will cancel all things you schedule if this is done out of order.

The info you have makes no sense for someone who's already gone through the correct processes recently. If you have been pushing it off, you may want to contact the consulate.

With everything that is going on, we believe we have done all we needed. But now I am stressing out going through all the files.

I have a received a letter from the Consulate General of the United States of America Montreal Canada

states: in reference to your fiance/e visa app, please find attached the below docs for your records and the continuing process of your case:

Packet 3 Letter

Copy of approved petition (i-129F)

Pamphlet "Rights and Protections for Foreigh Citizen"

It has a Packet 3 Checklist which I had signed and dated with our case number.

But I do have an email to Montreal-IV-DV that said we hadn't scheduled our interview and this needed to be completed. Which we have that done, paid for and the page printed out from that.

I also sent an email with back in March 2015 that was regarding the completed D160 that has the checklist that we signed a copy of my passport and a screen shot of the D160 Confirmation.

I don't have anything in my files that references Packet 4.

Medical is scheduled, and so is the interview. What else am I missing?

Sorry for all this as I know its been awhile for us but we had alot go on that slowed down our process and now with the family stuff behind us we are moving forward again.

It was 2014. We had 3 deaths in the family and had to delay things. We recently got a letter stating that if we didn't do anything with our application it would be abandoned in 60 days. Which made is move rather quickly.

After numerous emails with the consulate and waiting for the interview dates to open up we finally got the interview date booked for Jan 5. After that was booked I booked the Medical in Toronto for for this month.

I know it took us forever but we are finally moving forward but because of all the stuff that went on I am so worried we missed something. We have very detailed files of everything we did, but I can't find anything regarding a Packet 4 email.

The packet 3 stuff was completed and emailed - I have a copy of that email in my files.

Who would I call or followup to confirm this?

So I received this email now after explaining that I had sent the Packet 3 info but had not yet received my Packet 4 email, could it be resent to me.

It has a link to the packet 4 PDF - so it looks like I have everything submitted and I can stress alittle less now.

Email:

We are pleased to inform you that the U.S. Consulate General in Montreal received applicant’s response to our Packet 3 on March 11th, 2015. The applicant may schedule a visa interview for the earliest date available using our online appointment system https://ais.usvisa-info.com/en-CA/iv/information/iv_services

The U.S. Consulate General in Montreal is committed to provide the beneficiary of this case full and fair consideration consistent with applicable United States laws, rules, and regulations of processing fiancé(e) visa applications at the time of the interview. The application should be complete and he should answer the consular officer’s questions fully and accurately. Any missing documents or incomplete information could cause considerable delays in processing the fiancé(e) visa cases.

We strongly encourage fiancé(e) visa applicants to carefully review the interview preparation instructions available on the website of the Department of State: http://photos.state.gov/libraries/canada/303578/montreal/Packet4-MTL.pdf

This information will help the applicant better understand the immigrant visa process and prepare for the upcoming interview. It also contains details regarding getting the required medical exam in Canada and the checklist of documents required for the upcoming interview. The applicant must bring all the originals of the documents submitted previously.

Any questions about the courier pass-back services or any issues with the website of our appointment services contractor should be reported to our contractor directly using the contact details here https://ais.usvisa-info.com/en-CA/iv/information/contact_us

Since appearing for an interview does not guarantee a visa will be issued, we would like to use this opportunity and remind that every visa issuing post around the world specifically advises visa applicants at the outset of the application process not to make unchangeable plans – such as scheduling important events, purchasing nonrefundable tickets, or other decisions with considerable financial implications – until they have obtained their visa and are ready to travel.

We hope that this information is helpful in replying to your inquiry. Please let us know if we can be of further assistance.

Best regards,

OP11

YES!

While it's not 100% exactly like the emails we get, it's most likely the email you would have gotten had they emailed it to you a year or so ago! Everything on there is correct as to what you need!

And it has the same packet 4 link that I linked you! So yes, use that. The packet 4 pdf file shows both immigrant and K1 visa, just look at the list for the K1 page, the only real difference between the two is that the immigrant uses I-864 and K1 uses I-134 for the Affidavit of support form!

I have a feeling that they weren't understanding that you didn't have the list of things, sometimes bugging them is the best way, but now you officially have as much information as you can possibly get! Just took you finally getting an inquiry person that understood your issue versus "NAH MAN YOU'RE FINE"

Congrats and take that email with you to both your medical and your interview!
