I forgot about them. I've only seen them in the zoo, so I'm not sure how they react to humans.

See below...

The same way humans react to a cheeseburger.

More seriously: If you're ever stranded somewhere and are forced to eat polar bears, avoid eating their livers. Polar-bear liver contains lethal amounts of (I think it's) Vitamin A.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

The symptoms of acute hypervitaminosis A look nasty. Complete loss of the outer layer of skin was something I didn't expect to read.

One of several ways in which a polar bear encounter may not end well, I guess. Awesome animals to watch from a distance though.

I knew you wouldn't, and not because I am not being genuine, because I am. Unlike you, I HAVE considered it at great length, and unlike someone who has no clue about guns, I have drawn my own conclusions.

It's fine to be ignorant about guns, or any other topic, really; but people who don't understand any given situation, yet are willing to tell others what they need to do in regards to said situation... well, I'll just be polite and say that they are being silly, at best.

i'm not going to respond to all your questions, i honestly don't feel like you're being genuine. more like you're making excuses as to why nothing can be done (not in our lifetime, all the guns already here, yadayada)..

A machine gun is a machine gun, an AR 15 is not for example a machine gun. Words have meanings.

Assault Rifle is something else again, google is our friend.

Not sure how you hope to participate in a discussion on such a topic, like joining a car forum and not knowing the difference between a car and a truck.

And there it is, folks! Winner, winner, chicken dinner!!

What I find so funny about these comments? The same people doing this are woefully ignorant about Muslims and Islam in general, but that doesn't stop the completely bat**** comments about how we need to "handle" them. Just don't disrespect the gun.

obviously gun ownership doesn't make anyone a special american snowflake. if i can walk into a walmart and buy a gun without showing my 'gun geek' card, i don't think anyone needs to have extensive or even basic knowledge of guns themselves in order to have an opinion about gun control. mind boggling was told such nonsense twice, but i'm considering the sources. <_<

Tell that to the members who think gun ownership alone makes you an American.

i know i know, gun enthusiasts are very proud of their knowledge of gun parts and different types of ammo and the rainbow of color camo available. i get it. it's an exclusive big boi club and i've offended an extension of your manhood. unforgivable.

however, what you and others here at vj fail to understand is - all americans - no matter their level of gun intelligence - get to have an opinion on gun control in this country. contrary to what some here at vj believe, owning a gun does not make you more of an american and until there is some sort of federal skill level assessment attached to gun ownership i'll be just as polite and tell you and your guns to take a seat.

Nobody said you had to own a gun, just some basic knowledge.

Something that is sorely lacking when it comes to talking about Islam.

whatever nobody said - doesn't matter. i know yall like to talk technical about guns and bullets and what kills what most affectively (that's for you, charles) but when all that nonsense fades to black, both gun owners and non gun owners - of any varying degree of 'gun smarts' are worthy of entering into the gun control discussion. ya'll don't get to frame the debate just because you have guns.

TBH, the more I learn (sometimes on VJ) about civilian assault style weapons, the more I realize the pointlessness of outlawing them mostly due to the lack of real difference between an AR and a typical hunting gun. One just looks meaner apparently. When normal people argue with a scientist who's dedicated their entire life to studying the climate, it looks ridiculous. Why would assumption against knowledge in any other area look better? That doesn't mean you can't have an opinion but if you're going to call for control of certain types of weapons, it would help your cause if you knew a real concrete reason of what type and why.
