I am leaning towards this being some sort of Islamic Extremist terror incident too. But how is it qualitatively different or worse than the bi-monthly mass shooting of the garden variety sort?

But it's also possible that his co-workers were the Muslims are all terrorists types and that their comments to this previously responsible gun owner may have been made often enough to cause the perpetrators to lash out violently in a bizarre Radical Muslim/work place violence manner.

Here's the thing that I think you (not just you, but many others, as well) are missing... all religions have a history of violence. History tells us that. But islam is the only religion that I know of that is currently preaching death to infidels. As in today, and tomorrow.

Not to defend what they do but it's also the newest of the big religions.

Materials are not hard to come by Ted. If these folks did not have guns would there be an attack ? Would they have tried to kill folks. ? The answer is yes.

Anyone can obtain most anything if they want it bad enough. The point is that obtaining materials to make a bomb, then assembling that bomb and successfully placing it somewhere without being seen and detonating it, is a much more difficult task than obtaining a gun, pointing it and pulling the trigger.

This line of thinking that if guns are harder to get it won't change anything because someone will just use something else, is not logical or rational. The more difficult something is to do, then fewer people will attempt doing it and fewer people will be able to carry it out. Any chimp can aim and fire a gun, not many chimps can obtain the materials to make a bomb, build it and successfully detonate it in a place where it will do a lot of damage.

but does paris and london also have school shootings, work place shootings, drive by shootings, accidental toddler shootings, an absurd number of suicides by gun? or can we only talk about gun violence carried out by islamic extremists?

I spent most of my life commuting by train and tube, seemed quite common for those wanting to end it to use that option, wait for a train step in front, bang.

A guy I used to play Squash with was a tube driver, happened to him.

I have no particular issue with those wishing to commit suicide doing it by gun as opposed to train. Who would want to be a train driver after that.

I realised some time back that the ant gun nazi's are not interested in rational discussions so there is no point. I have seen what has been implemented in Colorado. Give an inch and they will take a mile.

hmmm. wonder how the numbers compare? tube in all the world = gun suicide in america

ease of access, that is the only variable we can control as a country. i don't think i know a single person who wants to ban guns period and yet that is pretty much the only response i hear from nra supporters.

I'm not an anti gun nazi and I'm open for discussion, so what do you got besides the same ole tired line of "if it's not guns it will be something else"?

It seems that once you mention any type of gun control whatsoever, you're automatically labeled an anti gun nazi. At least that's the trend here on VJ.
