Cuba - Can I make interview appointment without notification from Embassy?

My K-1 US peitioners with a fiance in Cuba:

I have received the letter from the NVC that our case was sent to the embassy in Havana on November 19 (2 weeks ago) but my fiance has not yet received any notification that emabassy received it or to tell him to pick up the packet of instructions. When should we expect to hear from the embassy?

We have already completed the DS-160.

NEXT STEP?

  • Can we now schedule the interview? Or do we have to wait for the "go ahead" from the embassy?
  • If we can in fact schedule the interview, can I do it online at this website? http://cgifederal.secure.force.com/
  • Do I have to pay the $265 visa fee BEFORE scheduling the interview appointment? Or do we pay it in person at time of interview?

THANKS TO ANYONE WHO HAS SOME INSIGHT! :)

yes you can schedule the interview. They will NOT send your fiancee anything or notify him of anything.

You will have to pay the 265 as you set up the interview. It will give you instructions on where to pay for it. I had to go to 7-11.

once the interview is set your fiancee will need to take his interview confirmation and go set up the medical appointment. If he is in Havana good luck it could take 2 months like mine did.

Thank you so much pepper44. Yep he's in Havana.

I know you're not supposed to get the medical exam and other official paperwork too soon, or else it could be considered expired.

Do you know how long before the interview is the ideal time to do these things?

Thanks!

as soon as my fiancee and I set the interview - he went to get the medical. This was in sept. He couldn't get an appointment till Nov 23rd. This goes to show you how long he will have to wait.

Two months - he had to go to Marianao because you have to go to the approved location in his district.

It cost $420. It is only good for 6 months. Once you set the interview you will know your timeline of when he should go to get the medical. I gave you perfect idea of how long it will take so be careful when you do set the interview. You don't want to NOT have the medical completed. Once it is done you want to give another 2-3 weeks for them to send to the consulate. So I would say schedule an interview in late Jan sometime if not in early to mid Feb.

The other documents like police report, and certificate of solitaire I would get 3 weeks prior to the interview. They are pretty quick with those only takes a few days for those.

But you want to make sure you send the remaining documents and packet to your fiance if you are not going to be present. Income and all other documents.

Amazing, you've been a huge help with this since I've been getting conflicting and unclear info, it's like nobody in these offices knows what's going on. Yeah earliest appt as of now is March 30!so it's actually getting more delayed as time goes by. Hope all worked out with you guys!

thanks rebel - but we were denied last week.. This is how I know the process. I just went through it.

march 30th is plenty of time to get the medical done - I would tell him to go in early jan to get that completed because if they delay the visa after the interview - the medical will be expired by the time he comes to the us and I heard from others on here - that is a problem that some are running into when trying to enter the states.

Best of Luck!
