No word since biometrics still - though, we're patient, and will just keep going with our already wonderful lives. That aside, my state and federal tax refunds worked splendidly. I followed the advice from folks on this forum, and both returns were accepted filing married + jointly with a declaration of being treated as a resident for the 2015 tax year.

State taxes were less straight forward, as there was no special letter to write and I was told by the tax board to 'file the same as you do with the IRS.' I pressed them further about residency and they reassured me the requirements. I sent a copy of the IRS letter and instructions just in case.

All is well, and I thank all those who contribute good information on this forum. :)

Very pleased indeed to say that I received my Green Card through the post today, exactly a week after getting approval. I am one of the fortunate people who haven't had to have an interview and went straight to approval. 126 days since filing for AoS, 370 since filing for K-1. Relieved to be over the line finally, now just have to wait 2 years for removal of conditions and 5 years for citizenship. Also passed my Texas drivers licence last week, received that through the post last Friday.

Thanks to everyone here who has contributed in some form or other, couldn't have got through it without you all. And good luck to those of you still waiting for one or more approvals!

Combo card on hand since Friday!

Did anybody experienced "receiving e-notification through sms" but checking the status online nothing has changed? because I received a status changing of my AOS the day that my EAD and AP was approved but checked since then and nothing has changed! Still on "on March 10th we received the response of RFE"

Really excited of getting some news of my GC!

Can't plan our trip yet since we don't know if we are going to have an interview or not, and if we are, when it will be. (butterflies in the stomach)

Hello again, everyone! I'm hoping to see a few more approvals or interviews scheduled for those still waiting on their GC's, but at least everyone has a card now and can start getting into a normal adult life or continue with their normal thing until a rush of GC or interview time comes!

My husband was disappointed because the HR department called him Monday to tell him there was a problem with his background check. He had put all his previous names used, but hadn't communicated the name change vs. name on SSN card thing. So he explained at that time and she told him that she would try again (meaning that she would run his SSN through the I-9 verifier using his old name) but that he would need to wait until May 5th for orientation rather than the expected April 20th orientation. I was reassuring him that the SSN check wouldn't take so long and that he would probably get called back the next day and thankfully, I was right! They asked if he could start the next day (which is today)! He took quite a few documents with himself and I suggested which documents to show for the I-9 to prove identify and work authorization. Technically, the EAD/AP is no longer usable, but it's great that his A# matches both so that at least one matches his name change document. My honey's going to be earning a pay check! Yay! We don't know what bill we need to pay first!

Next is getting his learners permit restriction removed from his driver's license. That's still a month away, but we can manage; he works downtown and I can drop him off as I go to work until he passes his test and we get the other vehicle out for transmission work. The next month is packed with trying to pay off the transmission, finishing up the last semester from my college job for me, finals for him, and trying to cram in studies for this last CPA exam. I can't wait until those are all done, but I hope we have the time to get them all done! (Oh, and my guy is getting A's in both his US history and Texas government classes and gets higher scores on his assignments than his American classmates! LOL!)

I hope the next four weeks sees a few more approval action on this thread too! Hopefully? Maybe? (F)

A job search can be discouraging and it's hard to think that immigration may be another barrier to be selected for a position. We had submitted so many applications for him trying to find something that would be close or accessible on the bus. I came across a food handler certification that impressed some of the interviewers on the interviews he did have. He was getting discouraged on not getting called back after the interview, but I saw the interviews as a positive thing. For about a week, he had several, but it took about three weeks on average to hear back after submitting the application.

Just keep looking. Keep going and keep trying. It's tiring and can be emotionally draining, especially if you spend hours on a computer filling out forms and personality tests without knowing if you would ever get any response for all your time spent. We didn't know what kind of position my guy would get seeing how he had limited experience, but today, we are grateful to all the places that didn't call him back after the interview! So far it has worked out, but I would say it took a good two months to get to this point. Don't give up, keep going!

I feel encouraged with your words Amara. Thank you. It's been a month since I got my EAD and been 3 weeks since I filled a lot of forms online for a job. And yes, it's draining me emotionally. And was turned down today for a car loan that my husband tried to apply for so that I can atleast go around with our kids and cheer myself up. It's really depressing and I was just crying earlier but reading your post I felt I wasn't alone. My husband told me that it's not what you can do or how professional you are, it is who you know. That's what he said so you can get a job fast. Sorry for ranting. Just really feel low. But thank you for sharing your husband's experience. I felt well.

Why thank you, Emmerald! You message is touching to me! We felt the same way. We were wondering why even McDonald's wasn't calling!! Then I would change my schedule to take him to the interviews later on with being told he would get a call back, and nothing. He would do really well at the interview but still. At least he was here when the job market is pretty strong in our city. If it's more competitive, then the job search gets that much harder!

I remember when I had met my guy and we engaged. The job I was in was barely enough for me, but was enough for immigration. I knew it would be tough, but I decided I was committed to our marriage at that time. Before that, I had been looking for a job, and applying to so many places. I would get an interview here and there, but no offers. My experience just wasn't good enough, even with a masters degree. I was really depressed about the financial problems and trying to figure out how to start this visa process, but my current job eventually came through. Even though it was higher pay, I don't know how we would have made it without this college job of mine!!

I say all that to say, it's freaking tough out there! It's not just you. But I encourage you to keep knocking and you should get a yes somewhere. I pray things improve for you! I have shed those same tears that you have; I am certain to shed them in the future too.

Really encouraging words Amhara!

I just got my EAD and I am struggling where to apply too! Since I live in a very small town and places that are hiring are a little bit farther.. We don't have a second vehicle and there are no busses around.. Another thing that gets me it is that we plan on going to see my family in around two/three months! What if the job that I apply just come put of the blue to hire me right before we travel?

Another thing is my MIL been thinking that I am just lazy and do nothing of my life since I came to the US, and see me as a person who doesn't wanna do anything (even though, she doesn't work), wouldn't have a slightest idea of how frustrating it is!!

Definitely looking forward and keep my chin up and keep trying! Hope things workout soon and hear something or some update of my GC, so wish more Dec filers too!!
