UPDATE!: No EAD or AP.....but the Ombudsman's office picked up our case sooooooo hopefully something will result.

Hopefully because the VJ timelines suggest that petitions filed as of January 25th have been approved for their EAD/AP!!!! What's taking them so long?

Congrats to everyone

I am so happy for your guys.

I received my SSN today after weeks and 3 days.

They wrote on my SSN valid for work only with DHS Authorization.what does that mean?

After receiving my green card do I need to apply for another SSN?thanks for your answers.

that is great that you got your SSN!

valid for work only with DHS authorization just means you have to have a valid permit (EAD or greencard) in order to work. If you have either one, you can work.

I think there is no need to go get it re-issued once you get your greencard, because you would have to resent both to an employer anyways, but don't quote me on it. Maybe someone else knows more about it than I do?

hi, from every indication it appears u got ur green card before u got ur SSN right?because normally if u are not us citizen or a LPR ur SSN will carry the notation valid for work only with DHS Authorization, but when u become a LPR, u have the option of applying to the SSA for a change of status and a new card will be issued without any notation on it, so I suggest u go apply and let them know why u are applying for a new SS card. unless its different in your state because different states have different laws I got my SSN a week after I got here and everything was pretty much easy.goodluck

you are good to work :-) the note on it doesn't do anything bad, I have had mine foreverrrrrr (got my first SSN in 2006, and updated it to reflect my name change in November 2015. That was before I even applied for AOS, so of course it came with the same notation on it). I guess now that I am an LPR I could go and update again, but I haven't yet.

basically the EAD is your work authorization that you need :-)

Hey all, how's everyone doing?

I went to SSA office, finally my husband got a week day off, we went to remove the SSN card that indicates "work authorization DHS only", they ask for verification questions such as what's ur parents name etc. Got a new SSN delivering to me within 5-7 business working days. They are issuing me a new card with same SSN without the wordings.

Went to the bank, provided them my PR card, and unfortunately, I am still not qualify for a credit card till I get a job :(

I took my Driving License Learner's permit written test today, sadly, I failed at section 2, but I've got 95 for road signs. Gonna go back tomorrow to retake! Hope I pass tomorrow, otherwise, I'll have to wait for 7 days! My parents are coming to visit end of month!

Hello all! My husband had a job interview today (after having about five so far) and he got the job! This was a second interview at a nice hotel as the first person that interviewed him earlier this week suggested him for a different role. He needs to wait on a background check, so hopefully that won't take too long.

While he was there, I was making sure everything was in order for filing our request for extension to file our tax return and was surprised to have been able to file it online. I was thinking that since he hasn't filed any tax return, we'd need to file paper. I am wondering if we can get his name change done before filing the return, but we'll see.

We need to mail the request to correct his selective service stuff, but I am relieved this immigration rush is calming down. Now maybe I can save some annual leave for a change!

That is excellent news Amhara! Congrats to him! How was the employer during the interview? More income for the family too! I've been submitting resumes, no news as of to date but fingers crossed!
