December 2015 AOS filer status

There are three different types of SSA cards:

  1. NOT VALID FOR EMPLOYMENT
  2. VALID FOR WORK ONLY WITH DHS AUTHORIZATION
  3. ~NO RESTRICTIONS OR NOTES~

A K-1 entrant without EAD/AP (before marriage) gets number one. After the EAD/AP, you get number 2. After the GC, you get number 3.

I don't think you are required to go from number one to number two, but it's a typical step. In fact, I don't think you are required to go from number one to two, but the SSA wants to know your immigration status and that may cause problems with the Form I-9 check process.

Thanks Amhara, that is actually quite weird because my SSN states number 2 instead of 1 even before i filed AOS. I applied it a week after i arrived US and before marriage.

But since im at number 2 i guess I dont have to update them.

I'll do a review Hannah, will post it up soon.

I have few other emails and smses, it jumps from card is being produced back to Case was approved and back to card is being produced...looks like they're doing some back and forth there. But all good and relieved!

Thanks Amhara, that is actually quite weird because my SSN states number 2 instead of 1 even before i filed AOS. I applied it a week after i arrived US and before marriage.

But since im at number 2 i guess its fine.

Mine has always said valid only with DHS permission. Maybe it's their automatic with K1's, because we do adjust and are able to work once we get our EAD?

Yeah, K-1 visa holders get the VALID FOR WORK ONLY WITH DHS AUTHORIZATION cards because they are eligible to work with DHS authorization (for those 90 days upon arrival). Just because you choose not to apply for such authorization does not mean that you are not eligible, hence you get the card with the words above.

I got mine 3 weeks after arriving in the US. It is as described above. :)

Oh, and I passed my driving test. Had an technical interview yesterday for a job (which I think I screwed up) and another one today (which I think I did better on). This afternoon, I drove down to Big Sur because (a) it was a lovely day and (b) since I had a car and a license, it seemed like the thing to do. :)

Hey, thanks so much, definitely very useful!! It calms the nerves rather a lot when you know what to expect. All of the reviews for the Sacramento office (where mine will be) are so old but generally all pretty positive. I know I'm going to over prepare like you did, but definitely better to be over prepared!

My medical from London expires on April 6th which is less than two weeks before my interview... I already submitted my vaccination form that I got in London with my AOS package - I don't think I need another medical but can someone affirm this?

And great on the SSN stuff - mine says eligible with DHS authorisation so I'm good to go until I get my green card! This forum proving it's worth time and time again.

K1 Journey - 5 months and 1 day

AOS Journey - 4 months 4 days

ROC Filed - Jan 30 2018

ROC Delivered - Feb 1 2018

NOA date - Feb 7 2018

Conditional Green Card expires April 26 2018.

The 'who gets which SSN card' part is federally administered. There is no difference at the state level.

Drivers licenses, on the other hand, are a state matter so your mileage may vary (pun intended). ;)

Yeah, I wasn't right. The SSA and state DPS have both been giving us problems from the beginning! But at least we are having these government problems while he's here and not in AP! Our K-1 was pretty easy, so having these issues now is manageable.

I had the same problem with my lease over here. The management did not allow me to include in even before i arrived US. I explained to them but they said its the rule. What I was told is I need to hit 3k salary to rent the apartment and with a green card. After I came and stayed for 6 months, I made relationship with the management and they told me that its fine as long as I have an EAD and can update them with my pay stubs when I get my job, this also applies to when I had problem opening a bank account in US when I first came. I was included only after receiving EAD. Explained to Officer about this during interview with the updated lease agreement which only starts in march with my name in it, totally fine with it.
