December 2015 AOS filer status

Going to jump in on this as I'm preparing my forms before our wedding (Dec 18th!) so we can just enjoy the holidays afterwards! This thread has already been helpful as it's saved me from needlessly filling out the i-693 form!!

I do have a quick question though... my fiance and I are getting married in a courthouse here in California with his family as witnesses (so it's no secret), but we plan to have a 'proper' church wedding back in England in a year or so (when we can afford it!) so all my elderly and extended family and friends can come celebrate with us. I ideally don't want to change my name until after our 'proper' wedding to make it feel as authentic as possible... I do intend to take his name and have declared so on our marriage license. Should I file for AOS with my married or my maiden name? I plan to be known as my maiden name for another year or two yet but does that really matter? It all seems a bit petty when you spell it out like this, but I'm not quite ready to let go of my maiden name yet!

I double-barrelled my last name. John-Smith instead of choosing my husbands by itself. My reasoning; I'm the last youngster in my family and the only female to carry on my family name, I'm rather sentimental to it, our son has the same double-barrel, I like to be different and basically it rolls off the tongue better than just my husbands mixed with my first name. I sound too much like Captain Americas wife haha

Just my two cents. I'd do whatever you ultimately feel comfortable with, it'll be you who mainly has to deal with it. I personally enjoy it! :D

Jumping in with the December filers as well!

We sent everything on December 7 and received the 3 NOA1s about two hours ago (benefit of living in Chicago haha). Got assigned to Missouri, all case numbers start with MSC. Where did everyone get assigned to?

Hope things will go fast especially the EAD. It has been a month and a week here in the US and I'm already starting go crazy!

I was reading this thread that MSC is for the National Benefits Center (NBC)?

http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/535857-anyone-being-processed-at-msc-missouri-service-center/

Hopefully we will get our receipt number by this Wednesday and we will find out if we are there too!

Dont know if it is normal at this stage, but back when we filed our I-129f and got our email notification it took forever until we could access the status online. And then it worked at some point.

I'd give it a few weeks before investigating :-)

Thank you!! Definitely let me know how that works out because Ive been doing so much research on getting a license in texas and everywhere I look it always says in texas you need an EAD..

We got his learners permit yesterday. I thought I needed to wait longer to apply for his SSN and we applied for it after marriage. They denied our request because he "was no longer a fiancé, but a spouse". We filled out a TX waiver for the SSN requirement. Because he doesn't have an SSN, we couldn't add him to my lease, so we had to fill out a TX resident waiver, and I provided two bills that covered two months (four documents in total) to establish my residency.

They asked for his green card and work permit, but since we don't have that, they accepted his visa and I-94. The learners permit expires on the last day of the I-94, but by then, we should have an NOA and possibly his EAD. We need to schedule a driving test for him now for his drivers license, because their appointments are pretty booked!

We had problems because my husband only has one name. I figured that's his first name, but the visa treated that as his surname and assigned his given name as "FNU". I was hoping the marriage would let us treat his only name as his first name, and my last name as his last name, but that's not how we were allowed to do it. So now, we may try to do a name change (to really make his first name his first name!!!!) soon as we might get an RFE if USCIS takes that position with his name too!

Signature coming soon...

My husband received his NOA in the mail for the I-765 and I-485 yesterday in Missouri. I have yet to receive the I-130 NOA hard copy by mail, but I live in Rhode Island so it should probably be here by Tuesday to me. Whoo hoo! Hopefully the biometrics appointment letter will arrive sometime in the next 6 days.
