Going to jump in on this as I'm preparing my forms before our wedding (Dec 18th!) so we can just enjoy the holidays afterwards! This thread has already been helpful as it's saved me from needlessly filling out the i-693 form!!

I do have a quick question though... my fiance and I are getting married in a courthouse here in California with his family as witnesses (so it's no secret), but we plan to have a 'proper' church wedding back in England in a year or so (when we can afford it!) so all my elderly and extended family and friends can come celebrate with us. I ideally don't want to change my name until after our 'proper' wedding to make it feel as authentic as possible... I do intend to take his name and have declared so on our marriage license. Should I file for AOS with my married or my maiden name? I plan to be known as my maiden name for another year or two yet but does that really matter? It all seems a bit petty when you spell it out like this, but I'm not quite ready to let go of my maiden name yet!

I think you can. We are kinda trying the same thing. I was thinking that we could change my husband's name after marriage since he has no last name and I would take that last name too.

What we found out is that he can only take my last name. So we are going to try to put his middle name like we wanted and hope that goes through.

You can definitely just put your husband's last name as your last name, but I don't know if you can put his first name as your last name. But if you want to keep your two first names and make one your middle with your husband's last name, you should be good.

Does that help or did I misunderstand?

You didn't understand me.

I said I have two last name and two first name and no middle name.

I want to take the name of my husband.so my husband last name will be my last name.now I want to put one of my last name as my middle name and dropp one,and keep my two first name.it is possible?

Lol I just left my name as is, once I get my green card then I'll have my real wedding and change my name then. I reaaaallllyy didn't want to risk someone or something getting confused with lots of different names.

I sent my package out today as that special thing and priority mail with a tracking number. I'm so nervousssssss.

I wouldn't recommend your documents being in your original last name. Your marriage certificate is all you need to start using your husband's last name. If your green card is issued like that, you may need to pay around $400 for a new card to be issued.

You don't need any other documents to use your husband's last name after marriage.

Meh... it's okay. If it ends up costing another $400 dollars I'll just wait till I have to do the removal of conditions for the 10 year green card

Our day was crazy! We tried to get my husband his driver's learners permit today as we needed to wait for 30 days after his arrival. I was organizing all our paperwork for the AOS in the waiting room of the DMV, and I couldn't find the envelope with the filing fees!!!!! Turns out, the DMV wants proof of my Texas residency too and he needs to wait a few more days...

So we went back home and we're looking for the thousand dollars we lost. I called the bank and found out that to reissue the money orders would be $62. Ahhhhh! I decided to look page by page and found it in the last tab!!!

We got it sent off and it should be there by noon tomorrow. Phew!! That step is underway!! Come on, biometrics!!

I'm worried this is going so quickly - my husband is visiting me on 12/20 for Christmas. I'm afraid they will send the Biometrics appointment letter while he's here visiting (he lives in another state for work). Will I get a NOA text message for the biometrics or will they schedule it here in my state while he's here visiting if we ask?

What is the check for $420?
