December 2015 AOS filer status

Ugh, the month before day thing... I have have to think so hard any time I have to date anything.

Oh yeah, driving here is so different to England. No roundabouts, jumping lanes ALL the time and the driving style is so aggressive! I don't envy you learning out here but at least you'll be a 'blank canvas', so to speak. We bought my car today! The process is long and car dealers are possibly worse here than in the UK, but finally some independence!

You jammy thing, I haven't been further south than SJ yet but Monterey is somewhere Zach is always raving about - we just need a long weekend and good weather. And ditto on the summer in January - not wearing a jumper = summer, whatever month is may be.

Cool beans. Money's a bit tight so I'm gonna pick something up independently and lean on a friend's car knowledge to try to ensure it's not a lemon. Only just squeaked in with the learners' permit: turns out the DMV won't issue one without at least 60 days left on the I-94. When we went in to do my written test, I had 61. Phew! In the interim, I've done a couple thousand miles (we went to Vegas and back and several trips up to SF and down south) so I'm less terrified than I was back in November. Kinda!

Give it time and we'll be true Californians: wearing coats and hats when it's 52F.

Hey guys, while waiting, just wondering how many of u used company health insurance or obamacare? Which is better?

The premium for my husband's company's insurance cost alot after adding me in it.

Any suggestions or advices? Thanks guys!

No worries. If I'm not wrong at least 6 times before lunch then it was a good day.

My understanding here in California (not sure if it varies from state to state) is that you, as the spouse of a US citizen, become eligible under ACA once you file your AOS application and have the I-797 NOA in hand.

This thread has explored the issue in some depth.

Received my hardcopy RFE yesterday, mailed it back today. Expected delivery by noon tomorrow. Now to wait again....?

CBP got my name wrong at POE and entered into SAVE as [First + Middle] [surname] instead of [First] [Middle] [surname]. The Social Security folks spotted the mistake when I applied for my SSN and 'fixed' it. Lucky escape it seems!

Well, we had to cancel our InfoPass appointment since the district judge hasn't reviewed the name change petition. Last week, when I called, the rude lady said the judge takes 5 business days to review the case, yesterday she said 10 business days. The only hope is that we should be able to change his name next week. February 2nd is the last 10 business days for the judge, but if she still hasn't gotten to it, then perhaps the time frame will extend to 15 business days?

It was just a little bit of a disappointing week for us. I was thinking that we would get a lot of things done, but they didn't happen. Didn't get the name change done, didn't pass the driving test, missed our doctor's appointment, oy vey! Well, there is always next week. I couldn't schedule a new InfoPass on the USCIS site, so maybe they will let us update our case on our biometrics date? Doubtful, but we will see. It's just hard to schedule all this stuff in when trying to ask off time from work. But we still need to wait for February to pass by before we can think of EAD.

That's great news!

Whether you get an EAD in the interim depends on how backed up your local USCIS office is. Mine is about 7 months behind so I expect to get an EAD even if my AOS case flips to 'ready to interview'.

Oh no haha I wish it were that. I hyphenated my last name with my husbands which they missed off the initial NOA's but corrected it and the RFE had the hyphen. My RFE was for my joint sponsors financial documents which I had anticipated. Fixed now, I hope.

As for CPB, the SSN office had to verify my identity because of me having two middle names and according to CPB they were all my first. I know the annoyance of name problems ha. Anyway in the end I eventually got my SSN ?
