Very emotional. For 15 years, a visa overstay. Had the opportunity to marry many American citizens during that time, but married for love not for papers. Jesus Christ was our protector, provider, and shield for 15 years defending against those who would take advantage of someone who was here out of status. It was the answer of 20 years of prayer all bound up into a meaningful ceremony of 30 minutes surrounded by family.

No mention of the long processing time. Interview was quick. In at 8am, and out by 8:25am, although it felt a lot longer!

Sworn in, did the English reading and writing test. Just one sentence of each. Then the civics questions.

Questions I remember were:

Who does a senator represent?

What occurred on Sept 11th, 2001?

What is the rule of law?

When is independence day?

After that the majority of the time was spent going through my application page by page. Making updates to address, jobs, and so forth. No problems with making those updates on the spot. Then just going through the checklists to make sure I hadn't become a nazi or communist etc since filing in December. Always a little funny those questions. The atmosphere was friendly and more casual than I had experienced in other offices (Philadelphia and San Francisco).

He also spent a fair amount of time looking at my passport and matching the travel dates on my application.

Officer said he was recommending me for a approval and that there was a ceremony happening today at 1:30pm and would I be interested in that?

Ceremony was fun, 31 new citizens from 18 countries. Everyone got to stand up and be cheered when their country was called. Pledge, national anthem, several videos were played, and then finally the oath. After that a few more words and then everyone was called up one at a time to collect their certificate. Went down to the second floor and registered to vote. That was that! Lots of families there and they were encouraged to go anywhere in the room to take photos and such during the whole thing. Came home and all of my neighbors had decorated my house, and put up flags on all of theirs. My neighbors are truly amazing. It was so sweet. I am a very very lucky, and happy man.

Well, I had my interview today. Unfortunately, the result was " A Decision cannot yet be made about your application"

She told me that she has to ask her supervisor if I am OK with my continuous residence and my physical presence requirements.

I applied under 3 years rule. I know that I have multiple and long trips to Europe, as my husband lives and work there. But we have been married for 27 years and she didn't seem to have any objection about that although she asked me if I live with my husband and I answered that I spent some time of the year in Europe with my husband (and that's the reason for my multiple long trips) and some time in the States with my sons.

I am sure that everything is calculated very very correctly and I hope the immigration not to find anything else to delay my procedure again.

Some things about my visit to USCIS office today.

Too many people there, waiting their interview or their oath. My appointment was for 9 am and she (my interviewer) called me at 9.20. She started with civics, which I passed right away. The questions were:

1. Who is in charge of the executive branch.

2. If the president can no longer serve, who becames President?

3. What was one reason colonists came to America?

4. There are four amendments to the Constitution about who can vote. Describe one of them.

5. During the Cold War, what was the main concernof the United states?

6. Why does the flag have 50 stars?

I don't remember the reading portion, but the writing was about "California has the most people?" I am not quite sure.

Now I have to wait their decision. Do you know the time frame for their answer?
