New citizen here . Ceremony was last Thursday at the Irving Texas Field Office. Schedule was supposed to be @ 8:30, but they started the check in process around 8:45 which took about 45 minutes. Th

Updating skyajnas's citizenship status...

Also... without changing the format, I've added an extra feature to the table; each applicant's name is now linked to his or her profile so we can easily see when they were last on, recent posts, and timelines. This is all information available through the search feature on the Members sub-menu, but this makes it easier. If folks don't like this, we can remove the links, but I think it's useful. I've only seen one other monthly thread do this in the past and I think it's pretty neat. Quoting the table to make updates won't affect the links, so just continue to update as before.

And as of 10:30 AM today I'm a US Citizen. Woo!

Very nice judicial oath ceremony in Cleveland. The judge invited anyone who wanted to speak to do so, and we heard from French, Ukrainians, and even Iraqis who were naturalizing. I didn't speak because I felt like my jaunt across Lake Erie wasn't nearly as interesting. ;)

Edit: The best part was that the judge had an elementary school class in to witness the ceremony, and as the first person came up to get their certificate (who was from Guyana), quoth the judge to one of the students:

"Pop quiz: Who knows where Guyana is? ...It's in Africa."

is corrected by the applicant

"Err... South America. Sorry!"

Thanks USCIS! Glad to be done with you forever!

Tell us about it!

I arrived at 8 AM for the ceremony and was asked to wait in the waiting area. Then after checking the appointment letters and green cards we were asked to proceed to the ceremony room. Here the agents took our appointment letters and green cards and gave a number. We were to sit on the same numbered chair. It took more than an hour before everyone was seated.
After a welcome speech we were shown the Faces of America video. We were then asked to stand up for the National Anthem. Next all the countries were called out and the attendants from those countries were asked to stand up. Initially we were told that there were 161 of us from 61 countries taking oath. But after calling out all countries there were some attendants still sitting and 3 more countries were called out. So I don't know if these 3 countries were from the 61 countries earlier announced or were in addition to the 61. While everyone was standing we were asked to repeat the Oath of Allegiance. After being asked to sit we were again asked to stand up for the Pledge of Allegiance.
Next we were shown a video of the President welcoming the new citizens followed by America the Beautiful.
After the closing remarks the guests and families were asked to move out and we were handed our certificates row wise as we exited the room.

12/23/12 = Got the bio-metrics done (USCIS Status: Pending)

Our ceremony was apparently far more informal. We filed into the jury assembly room at a Cleveland federal courthouse (there was a podium at the front for the judge and USCIS personnel), and at around 10:35 (five minutes after the time scheduled on the notice) they started calling people up 10 at a time to check in. We gave the USCIS staff our notice and they confirmed everything looked good, signed the naturalization certificate in front of them (which they took back as we hadn't done the oath yet), and they gave us the main naturalization packet. We then lined up in front of the main judge's podium and she took our notice, green cards, USCIS documents, asked if we had been arrested or traveled since our last interview, and gave us a citizen's almanac and a federal voter's guide. After everyone had been called and processed, a federal judge for northern Ohio came in to do the actual oath ceremony. He said a few words about citizenship and asked if applicants had anything they wanted to say (a few did as I mentioned above), and then he asked the applicants to stand and raise their right hands while he said the Oath of Allegiance. He then individually called everyone up to get their certificate (we clapped for everyone as they got them), and at that point people were free to leave (they were processing voter registrations and had cookies and coffee in the lobby). All in all, very nice. I had my parents, my in-laws, and my wife with me.

And as of 10:30 AM today I'm a US Citizen. Woo!

Very nice judicial oath ceremony in Cleveland. The judge invited anyone who wanted to speak to do so, and we heard from French, Ukrainians, and even Iraqis who were naturalizing. I didn't speak because I felt like my jaunt across Lake Erie wasn't nearly as interesting. ;)

Edit: The best part was that the judge had an elementary school class in to witness the ceremony, and as the first person came up to get their certificate (who was from Guyana), quoth the judge to one of the students:

"Pop quiz: Who knows where Guyana is? ...It's in Africa."

is corrected by the applicant

"Err... South America. Sorry!"

Thanks USCIS! Glad to be done with you forever!
