The priority date is the date your application formally entered the USCIS system. For the N400 process, it really doesn't matter much, because there is no quota on the number of naturalization a that can be issued in a given year.

For other applications, there is a quota and an application will be processed only when a priority date is current. For example, if you want to bring your sister or brother to the U.S., there is a 12 year wait because they are currently reviewing applications with priority dates of 2003. So looking at the current priority date, you can guess how long it'll take for your application to be reviewed (unless something slows down or speeds up the wait).

Again, though, it's not really relevant for an N400 because applications are not placed on hold.

It's probably just because of the holidays. Cleveland and Cincinnati are the two fastest offices in the country based on the trackers for the last two years. There most be something in the water in Ohio! I hope your process is just as fast.

Last year during ROC it came so fast I had to scramble. This year I have a business trip starting on the 13th and was worrying about timing but my letter arrived yesterday. My appointment is on the 11th. Not much notice but i can make it work!

Hi,

I've been browsing the timeline of the Dec applicants in order to predict how long a family member's app will take. I figured I should register and share her time frame too. Not really sure how it works, so I will share the info below and hopefully someone can add it to the chart.

GC since: 12/20/2008

Sent: 12/17/2015

Cashed: 12/24/2015

NOA: 12/23/2015

That's all I have for them so far. They sent it to the Texas lockbox and field office is Orlando, FL.

I hope that the members who haven't updated their progress lately have had success with their applications and appointments.

For completeness, I'm linking to a post by one of our fellow December 2015 filers who had their application rejected (see below); I'm not sure whether or not they have refiled... hopefully they will come back and update us soon and will have a smooth application process the second time around.

There's a great lesson in this experience; always mail in complete forms, even when some of the pages do not apply.

Did everyone create a USCIS account to track their progress? The G-1145 document is only good for the initial notification.

You need to create and account, add your case number, and then turn on notifications.

Just making sure everyone knows this.

I don't think there's a notification for biometrics though... at least I didn't get one before I got the letter in the mail.
