New citizen here . Ceremony was last Thursday at the Irving Texas Field Office. Schedule was supposed to be @ 8:30, but they started the check in process around 8:45 which took about 45 minutes. Th

I was looking at N400s over the past few years. Applicants things were quite slow two years ago and then sped up this time last year and then slowed down again over the Spring and Summer. It's office-based, but if you trend Houston, for example, 2013 applicants were averaging 7-8 months then in late 2014 they were averaging 4 months then in early Spring 2015 they started averaging 8-10 months. In the last few months things seem to be going faster than last Spring but not as fast as last Winter. Here's hoping we're all done sooner than we expect!

Ha .... I did a similar thing for Washington DC filings only I reviewed about 18 months of data and came up with a projected timeline of 174 days from start to finish. I completed the process in 168 days (i.e.from date of filing to the oath ceremony) so was pleasantly surprised that I beat my forecast by 6 days. :goofy:

I suspect the momentum will pickup in 2016 because we are heading into an important election year.

Ha .... I did a similar thing for Washington DC filings only I reviewed about 18 months of data and came up with a projected timeline of 174 days from start to finish. I completed the process in 168 days (i.e.from date of filing to the oath ceremony) so was pleasantly surprised that I beat my forecast by 6 days. :goofy:

I suspect the momentum will pickup in 2016 because we are heading into an important election year.

I like how active our thread is becoming... some tend to be pretty quiet.

It's funny, but my thought process was the exact opposite: election year means more applicants means slower processing. USCIS has no plans to hire new workers to cope with any additional application load.

The way I see it, there are usually three types of applicants; those who apply as soon as they are eligible, those who apply as soon as they are able (due to financial reasons or big life events such as newborn, relocation, etc.), and those who just don't care all that much. The first two won't change in 2016; they'll apply as soon as they can. The last group is the group that increases in election years because people suddenly decide that they want to become citizens after being permanent residents for years.

This usually causes a slow-down in election years, but I don't think it'll affect us... I think those applying staring in February/March may be in for a slower process. That's my interpretation of what happens, anyway; I'm no expert.

In general, I think December is a good time to apply; many people wait for Christmas or End-Of-Year bonuses or wait until the holiday rush is over, so you usually see more applicants in January than in December. I was told by an immigration lawyer that November and December are usually the lowest application months and April and May are the highest (when people have got their tax refunds or figured out how much they owe).

Back to your guess of 4 months; if that's what you've been seeing at your local office based on timelines for the past few months, I don't think it'll change for you... it's probably a good guess. If you were applying a few months from now, I'd tell you that it's probably too optimistic.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holiday to everyone. In the mail today. NOA is 12/19/15. My ASC is Hialeah FL not Oakland park. Please make correction.

I'm curious about something; when you went into biometrics, did you go to an actual USCIS field office?

Just based on what I've read, it seems that some cities schedule biometrics at the field offices but others (like here in Houston) have Application Support Centers that have nothing to do with USCIS... I see that there is an actual Hialeah field office so I'm wondering if that's where you went.

I'm not complaining; the ASC here is a lot nicer than the field office!

I went to the Hialeah Field Office. They do oath ceremonies and all that. They have other things going on as well when I was over there. I think its an actual USCIS branch. We can only hope we get the quickest response possible from our various centers.

Thanks! Sounds like a real field office. I went to the Houston field office once, but that was a very long time ago... it wasn't nice. I hope they've improved it on the last ten years or so.
