Sorry guys, I didn't check to this forum frequently, so I missed your comments.

I went to the interview today. Basically everything was going well until she asked me for leases. Both I and my wife are listed on the leases but only I signed on them (because lessor did not require both of us had to sign). That makes me in trouble. I passed all the tests, but the I.O. request me to send them the leases with signature of both of us. I went home, then send them immediately by mail. Hope to hear something from them soon.

Hi daqh,

You haven't logged on since this post, but if you get an notification for this message, come back and let us know what happened after your interview.

I am very happy. After phone calls, inquiry and two infopass appointments I have this notice in my case status.

If you're interested in voting:

Just so you know, Illinois has very voter-friendly registration timelines.

Unlike in most other states, you can register all the way through election day (11/8) in Illinois.

The only catch is that because it's late, you'll have to register in person under something called "Grace Period Registration".

http://www.elections.il.gov/Downloads/ElectionInformation/PDF/registervote.pdf

So if your ceremony is on or before 11/8, you'll be able to vote in the general election.

Thanks Jimmy. I am aware for the same day registration. I am so eager to vote. I hope to have this opportunity.

So what happened at the two appointments? It's a long story..........

I had my first infopass on September 20, the officer was very polite. I explained him that I was out of the processing time and I wanted to know why is that or if there was some

kind of problem. He looks at my file on his computer and told me that he sees no reason for the delay, that my interviewer still has my file and advise me to wait her reply. I

told him that this is not an answer to my question and that I would like to see his supervisor. He told me that he do that for me. He left for some minutes and turning back he

told me that he spoke with his supervisor, who is going to handle personally my case with the supervisor of my interviewer officer. He also told me that if I have not any news

in 10 days, to submit a new case inquiry or to schedule a new info pass.

As I hadn’t any news by end of September I scheduled a new appointment. The appointment was for Tuesday, Oct 11. So I went there with my son. I had to deal with the same officer of my

previous info pass appointment. We said the same bla… bla.. as at my previous appointment. But this time I insisted to see his supervisor. He told me that she was in a meeting and she

will be free after an hour or so. I told him that I will wait as long as needed to see her. I also handed him a letter I had written, addressed to my interviewer with cc to Field Office Director,

and District Director of the Chicago office.

He left and came back in one minute or two with his supervisor. She told us that she is going to talk to the supervisor of my interviewer and bla.. bla… We informed her that we had the

same answer about 20 days ago and nothing happened since. I asked her if I had to mail the letter as it was addressed and she asked us if she could handed the letter directly to my

interviewer or her supervisor. I said OK. Then she said that she would do that right away and asked us to wait her to come back. After 10-15 minutes she came back and told us that she

handed the letter to my interviewer’s supervisor. She also told that this was the only thing that she can do for us and she told us to wait and follow up the case status. The last thing I told her

was that the only thing they will achieve from this delay is stopping me to vote. Someday, sooner or later I will be an American citizen as I am eligible to be. We said thank and bye. I was

very disappointed as I hadn’t some real answer. I was thinking that if I wouldn’t have something till Oct 20, to mail that letter as it was addressed, but also to send a mail to the President of

US. I thought that it was unfair, as I am eligible for naturalization, that bureaucratic delay to deprive me of the right to vote.

In that letter I answered portion by portion all requirements for “SPECIAL CLASSES OF PERSONS WHO MAY BE NATURALIZED: SPOUSES OF UNITED STATES CITIZENS”, §

Sec. 319.1 Persons living in marital union with United States citizen spouse.

Summarizing that “Therefore, now there are more than 120 days since my interview date and by law a decision needs to be made and I am convinced that according USCIS law, there is

not any reason for my application to be denied. “

And as closing my letter I wrote “I am the only member of my family that is not an American citizen, which means I cannot vote on the upcoming presidential elections and I hope you

understand why I am so eager to obtain the U.S. Citizenship. As I stated before my husband is an American Citizen, his father and grandfather were also American citizens. We have been

married for 27 years. He is a PhD Biologist, with huge experience, excellent performance and numerous publications. He works abroad (at an international research institution,

*************** INSTITUTE, Greece) so he can support his family and fulfill his eligibility requirements for retirement in 2-3 years. For this reason I have multiple trips to Greece, to be with

my husband. We have two sons who both of them are 4th generation American citizens and permanent residents of Illinois. One of them is an electrical engineer who works for Com-Ed and

the second one is a student at University of Illinois in Chicago studying Mechanical Engineering. Thus, when my husband retires, he will return to live permanently in Chicago, with me, close

to our sons.”

I DO KNOW IF ALL THE ABOVE RESULTED TO THE TODAYS OUTCOME, BUT I OUGHT TO FIGHT FOR MY RIGHT TO VOTE.

Congratulations, stavroula58! I'm so happy for you!!! I hope you make it on time for this election.

That's crazy that you had to wait for so long and go to 2 info pass appointments just to remind them to do their jobs ((( But your journey is coming to an end and everything won't matter very soon. Congrats again and good luck!

Whether writing a letter helped or not is hard to tell, but I think it's pretty clear that if you hadn't gone there in person and been persistent then your file would still be gathering dust on your interviewer's desk.

The majority of applications proceed smoothly, as you can see from our group, but sometimes things go wrong. I think USCIS has become far more efficient in pricing cases quickly; most of us were citizens within 6 months, but where they really need to improve is in following up on cases that have been set aside. They seem to have a mechanism in place that forces them to check your file a month after an RFE. That's because they're been several cases where people who have failed to reply to an RFE have had their case is closed within a month. However there doesn't seem to be anything in place to force them to act once you have replied within the allotted time period.

The only thing that seems to work if you file goes "cold" is to keep pestering them. Eventually someone will look at your file.

I think the worst thing you can do is sit back and say "I'm not in a hurry, so I'll let it take as long as it takes". It's not a matter of taking a long time It's actually a matter of whether or not someone ever looks at your file again.

On the other hand, I think those applicants who start making info pass appointments one or two months after applying and up hurting the rest of us First of all they take up appointment slots the other people really need, and secondly they tend to desensitize the interviewers to our inquiries. What I mean is that if you were an interviewer and one morning you see 10 people demanding to know why their applications have stalled when they are actually well within the posted processing times, you may be a little less inclined to listen to the 11th person who might actually have a valid complaint.

I hope you get your oath ceremony letter soon Remember that sometimes they give you very short notice, so make sure you check your mailbox every day! I also hope that the last 2 December 2015 applicants see some progress soon.

Hi JimmyHou,

I had an Inforpass appointment 2 weeks ago to ask if i missed any notice and why my case takes so long. They said my case is under supervisor's review and there is tons of cases on his/her desk. They have no idea when he/she make decision on my case. They said if my case is outside of normal processing time (6 months after interview), I may ask lawyer to submit a case inquiry. Finally, they said I can do nothing to speed up my case but waiting! ***so sad***
