Thanks!

I might apply for a passport next week.

Also need to register to vote, update my drivers license, and update my social security info.

I'm dreading the DPS visit for the DL; that's always a 2 hour wait in Houston.

I made an appointment to do the passport for my parents. Registered to vote. Since the DPS and SSA will need the updated Immigaration status from USCIS, we will wait until my parents get passport and update it later. And since you changed your name, Jimmy, you need to update it asap so it will be reported your earning properly to IRS. Once again, congratulations :)

Thats what im thinking these days. just two of us in Chicago......

Yeah, such a long wait for everything in your field office. But maybe you'll secure yourself July 4th ceremony! That'll be awesome thing to remember.

Congratulation everyone. I'm so happy for you all.!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Good luck to daqh

HAHAH that was a good one! Knowing my field office im more like Thanksgiving day or Xmas day ceremony

Come on Chicago!

Have you guys tried an online case inquiry? I can't remember if it only lets you do it 6 months after applying or 8 months... but since it doesn't actually involve talking to anyone, it's pretty easy to try.

Sorry if I've already suggested this.

Sometimes this just gets them to look at your file and realize that your response has been received. Otherwise there's a chance (I assume) that they'll just look at your file when their 120 days are up and it's time to make a decision.

Just a thought.

Good luck.

Checked my account today... just for kicks. I think they're just closing everything out. I still think that the original inquiry may have got someone to take a look at my file, but who knows! :-)

Updating Interview date for daqh

You're one of our quieter members, but hopefully you'll see this or you're already aware of it.

I came across this and thought it would be helpful; it's a list of judicial naturalization ceremonies in St. Louis for 2016.

http://www.moed.uscourts.gov/sites/default/files/2016NatCer.pdf

USCIS says that almost all ceremonies in St. Louis are judicial, so you'll probably get into one of the ones on the list. They also don't have same day ceremonies.

https://www.uscis.gov/about-us/find-uscis-office/field-offices/missouri-st-louis-field-office#Naturalization%20Ceremonies

If you are approved at your mid-July interview, hopefully you'll get into the last July ceremony or one of the three August ceremonies.

Good luck.

Story time!

So... I went to apply for a passport today... the Downtown Branch of the Houston Public Library on McKinney St. is very close to my home and would have been the ideal location, except that it doesn't open until 11:00. The nearby Post Office on the corner of LaBranch and Hadley in Midtown was the second closest and opened at 9:00 so I picked that one. Both braches accepted walk-ins according to their websites (no mention of appointments). I got to the post office at 9:15 and was 3rd on the list. I soon realized that each applicant was taking about 20 minutes and that there were others not on the list who had appointments. Those with appointments got to go in first, even if they arrived much later than those on the list... which was fair; they went to the trouble of making an appointment. I would have made an appointment if I had known I could; other facilities specifically said "by appointment" on their websites. The lady processing the applications was extremely unfriendly, yelling at people for various reasons; she yelled at one lady that her handwriting was terrible. Anyway... almost 2 hours later, I'm first on the list, but two more people with appointments walked in and at this point I realized that at best, it would be another 40 minutes and possibly much longer... so I left.

In the car, I realized that it was now after 11:00, so I stopped by the Downtown library, which was about 10 minutes away. There was no line when I got there although there was a family in the room applying for their passports. I waited for about 5 minutes (during which I applied for a library card) and then I was called in. The application process took about 5 minutes, during which the librarian came in and gave me my just-processed library card. I was in the building for 10-15 minutes and the two ladies I dealt with were incredibly friendly and helpful.

One odd thing: I thought that attaching my photo to the application with 4 staples was a bit excessive, but I guess they really don't want it going anywhere!

Hopefully my naturalization certificate will come back alright; unlike most certificates, mine doesn't have the printed biometrics photo on it, but has the photo I submitted glued on... I hope they didn't use cheap glue!

Since it's been a quiet week, I thought I'd share my experience.

Interesting Jimmy. I heared a lot of rumors about USPS so I avoid doing passport at USPS. Public libraries are Okay, but I guess they don't send out the application everyday. My friend's certificate get folded in the mail when they mailed it back, and she got mad about it, lol. I and my brother changed name, and the photo were glued to the certificate, my parents did not so the photo were printed digitally to the certificate. And yes, they use expensive glue :) Edited by boy15
