Congratulations!!

Thank you for your report! Finally I could find the time frame, I understand it may be different though.

PI314, I have a question to you. My interview in Denver in 3 weeks, I want my husband to drive because I might be too nervous to drive for 2 hours. Can he wait for me in the waiting room/lobby during my interview and be with me at the oath ceremony?

Yes, your husband can wait with you. A lot of people bring their spouses and kids (though some of the kids were screaming). They scan everybody through and everyone waits together in a big lobby on the second floor. The interviewer will come out and call your name and take you to their office for the interview.

Same goes for the oath ceremony as well. Same building, same process. Then they take you to the 3rd floor conference room for the oath and initially they ask the spouses to wait on the 2nd. After the oath takers are all seated, they bring the spouses up. They also give you opportunities to take pics of you getting the certificate etc, if you are into that. I just got my certificate and walked out of there as soon as I could :)

Thank you for your reply.

I know that office, I had an interview for my first green card (AOS) there so I know what lobby on the second floor you talk about. :)

Adding silvermug to Phoenix filers (CA, please inform me if this is incorrect, also I tried to reformat your line correctly), my own oath ceremony on 3/18, and our first US Citizen red to dan.and.audrey! Congratulations!

Congrats!

Thank you very much! :D

I'd like to share now my interview and oath taking experience last 03/07:

I was scheduled for a 10:35am appointment at the ASC in Portland. Me, my husband & our son arrived there at 10:05am and went through security. We were then asked to go to the Second Floor Waiting Area and wait for my name to be called. The IO called my name at 10:45am and he saw me kiss my husband and our son goodbye and I followed him to the interview room. Once we got inside the room, he asked me to put my things down but to remain standing as I take an oath to tell the truth during the entire interview. Then, he asked me to sit down and started asking me questions on my N-400 form.

He asked me the basic questions first: my full name, marital status, maiden name, husband's name & son's name. Then, he proceeded with the YES/NO questions, just checking if everything I had there was correct. During the entire time, he never asked me to bring out any document even if I brought with me a thick binder of stuff. He then asked me if I fully agree to the Constitution of the United States and the Oath of Allegiance and I said yes. He asked me to sign the end page of the N-400 form and he stamped and checked some more stuff.

When he was done with my N-400 form, he then told me that we're now proceeding to the civics exam part. These were the questions (not in this order):

1) What is one right or freedom from the First Amendment?

2) Who is in charge of the executive branch?

3) If the President can no longer serve, who becomes President?

4) There are four amendments to the Constitution about who can vote. Describe one of them.

5) What is one reason colonists came to America?

6) During the Cold War, what was the main concern of the United States?

I got all of those right so he said we'll proceed to the reading and writing tests. He asked me to read "Which state has the most people?" and he asked me to write "California has the most people."

After that, he said I was approved for Naturalization. He told me that there's a 2:00pm Oath Taking Ceremony happening that day and asked me if I would be available to attend that one. I said yes, so he gave me both the white paper (interview results) and the green paper (oath taking schedule) and gave me instructions on what to do next. He congratulated me, showed me out of the room and that was it. The whole interview took about 10 minutes. ^_^

My family and I went out for lunch in Downtown Portland and we went back for the ceremony at 1:30pm. There was a lot of us oath-takers so it took some time to sit everybody down. They took our green forms, green cards and asked us to sign our certificates, and they gave us our Welcome US Citizen packets. The ceremony itself was very quick (about 30 minutes) and they gave us our naturalization certificates at the end. After the ceremony, they told us that we can already register to vote outside the ceremony room, so that's what we did. And of course, there were picture takings involved as well. ;-)

So that's it.

I'm so thankful to VJ forum for helping me with this whole process. I don't know what I would've done without you. ^_^

To those who are still waiting, be patient and I hope that everything goes smoothly with your own journey. You'll get there soon. ;)

***UPDATE***

I applied for my passport today.

Had my interview and oath ceremony today and received my naturalization certificate.

I was scheduled for 9 am at Denver. Got there at 8:40 and went through security where they made me remove my belt, shoes, wallet, fitness tracker etc and scanned them through. Waited until 9:05 and they called my name.

He started with the civics and language tests and here are the questions :

1) What does the declaration of independence do?

2) Name one branch of government?

3) Name 2 US holidays?

4) What does the judiciary do?

5) Who was the first president?

6) How long is a senator elected for?

I was chewing gum and while on the third question, he noticed that and said I can't do that and got up, brought the trash can to me and asked me to spit it out. I did and said sorry.

Got all of that right and he asked me to read "When is Columbus day?" and then write "Columbus day is in October".

After that, made me stand up and do the oath and then started with the yes/no questions. All of them were straight forward. He asked me if I was over 26 when I got my green card and I said yes and he didn't ask anything further. This was about the SS registration, I guess. I'm over 36 as well.

While he was signing and stamping some papers, he asked about my family and talked about a state school that we(Interviewer and I) both went to. Once he was done stamping, he gave me a paper asked me to read and sign it and said he was recommending me for approval. He also gave me the oath letter for 1:30 in the afternoon.

The whole interview took exactly 9 minutes and he never asked for any document other than my passport and green card. I had a huge binder full of stuff.

We went out had some food and went to friend's house nearby and went back at 1:30 for the oath ceremony. Total of 41 people and it went fast. Probably took 40 minutes. They took our oath letter(filled out) and green card and after the ceremony gave us the naturalization certificate.

I will apply for my passport tomorrow.

So that's it.

Thanks to every one who contributed to this thread and others here on the forum who shared valuable info that made this process so much easier. Those who are still waiting, I hope everything goes as smooth as it possibly could and you will all get there soon. I will be checking this thread to see how everyone is doing and if any one has any questions or me, feel free to ask and I will try my best to answer them.

Congratulations!!!

Removing My UK Love from the list…

I'm not in favor of removing inactive members, but I went back and checked and this applicant never actually said that they mailed the application… the last update was on 12/15 and said that they planned to send in the application on 12/21. If the rest of you prefer, I can undo this, but I think people should only be added to the list when they tell us that they've actually mailed the application. Of course, if we get an update, we can happily add this applicant back in!

Congrats!!!

1 question:

Is your interview at Federal Plaza or in Queens or out on Long Island?

Wow, I miss NYC and I was just there two months ago.

Also, we have two Atlanta interviews in the group tomorrow!

Maybe you guys will see each other there!

It's amazing... it used to take close to a year to get an interview spot in Atlanta. Glad it's going well for you guys and I hope their oath scheduling has sped up too!

Yes, our interview is tomorrow and I'm getting anxious for my dad, he is 65 years old, but doesn't qualify for simplified test as he's only been a PR for 5 years. I hope interview goes well for both my dad and Skyajnas. I flew to Atlanta and will go with him for a moral support.

I'm sure he'll do just fine. ;) I remember during my oath taking ceremony, there was an old guy (between 65-75) being assisted to walk by his son. When he was called to get his certificate, everybody in the room was clapping/cheering for him. He smiled and said, "Great country!" ^_^
