what are we supposed to work on now , our i864? I mean, is it wise to start getting that together?

Yes, I would work on both the AOS and IV package immediately.

Thank you all for your help! One more question - on the I-864, if there are no interpreters or additional information - do I still need to send in pages 6 and 7 if they're fully blank?

Gonna get this out today and overnight it! Thanks guys!

Yes start getting your paper work together. I have been working on the AOS and IV packets. Do all you can while you wait for case number and IIV number. Then you can do your DS-261 and pay your fees.

Also look at the link for NVC Process...it tells you exactly what to expect and what to start gathering for your packets.

So I'm trying to come up with a backup plan if our original joint sponsor backs out. There's another person who might be willing. She is married, but she and her husband both work. She has a daughter who lives with her but is 19. The daughter doesn't work. I don't know if the mom or dad claims her on their taxes. I believe they file separately.

Would this potential sponsor need to meet the requirements for 2 (herself and immigrant) 3 (herself and immigrant and daughter)?

i guess the household size would be 3. Instructions for Form i864 says:

Item Number 4. Enter the number of unmarried children you have who are under 21 years of age, even if you do not have legal custody of these children. You may exclude any unmarried children under 21 years of age, if these children have reached majority under the law of their place of domicile and you do not claim them as dependents on your Federal income tax returns.
