Questions regarding I-797, NOA 1 and NOA 2 (?)

I mailed out my I-130 petition on October for my spouse and kids living overseas.

At the end of October, my spouse received this in his mail. The I-797C, NOA.

I-797 C (NOA) came in the mail for my spouse and 2 kids.

In the NOA, it reads -

I-130 received by USCIS for spouse and 2 kids.

Given priority date : October 21 2015

Today (1st December) in the mail, I received this -

I-797, NOA

Priority date : October 21 2015

Notice Date : November 12 2015

Notice Type : Approval Notice, Section : Spouse, 2 kids

The above petition has been approved. We have sent the original visa petition to the Department of State National Visa Center, Portsmouth, NH. NVC processes all approved immigrant visa petitions that need consular action. NVC will forward the approved petition to that consulate.

Does this mean the petition has already been approved and send down to the U.S Embassy in my spouse's country for processing ? - I thought I had to have an NOA 2 before this happens ?

If so, how long will it take before the embassy receives the I-797 ? Eg, is it going to be a 5 month wait ?

Even though it says it's been sent to the embassy, it's actually only been sent to the NVC right now. You'll need to do all their document intake before moving on to the final stage at the embassy.

This is your NOA2...and it states that your approved petition was forwarded to NVC. It has not yet been sent to the embassy.

Oh, i didn't know this was the NOA 2.

And wow, the processing is really fast !

Oct to Dec to get the NOA 2. I was expecting 5 months.
