K-1 Application- question on papers.

My fiance and I are about to start filing for the K-1 Visa, but I need advice.

My birth certificate was lost a few years back (it was an older one and I think it wouldn't have been valid for visa application anyway as I've read you need an unabridged full birth certificate). I am half South African half British (I was born in SA but now live in Britain). After looking up online the certificate I need takes up to 6 months to receive from SA.

Can we still start filing for the K-1 visa without the birth certificate or would I need to wait til the new certificate is in my possession to start the application?

I know the K-1 process is long as it is, but the thought of adding another 6 months for my birth certificate before filing is so distressing :(

Yes only the USC need the birth certificate for the E-129F or all pages in the passport. You as the beneficiary need the birth certificate for the visa interview. So yes you can sent the package in now but I would also start to get the birth certificate from the SA now
