I'm actually trying to do the opposite: Have her improve her English before she arrives here. Although her spoken English is already pretty good, her written English can definitely use improvement. It will make it easier for her to assimilate to life here, as well as obtain a job, if she has good command over the English language. It's awesome that you are trying to learn Tagalog though!

My fiance has no problem with English. Very commendable for you learn Tagalog and you will learn some words very quickly. I went to my public library and grabbed one of the Tagalog language courses books. Copied the dics to my IPOD and started to play while driving to work. I am horrible with languages, but after a few trips of listening was able to pick up some of the language. I still can not speak it, but I know enough to get by. There are many cd's out there as well as some programs on the web that will help. Good luck!

Does your wife speak Tagalog at home or another language? I have taught myself some pretty good tagalog and I am learning Bisaya right now because my wife speaks that when she is in her home in Mindanao. But have her learn more English, American English. The biggest thing that my wife had to learn was the different meanings for words depending how it is put in a sentence, but my wife speaks very good English now.

Rosetta Stone is the de facto standard, but others can be found at Amazon.

All are as good as what you put into it. Learning will be easier when your teacher is sitting on your lap, haha.
