I would like to bring my sister over for 6 months at a time to the USA, I am a ten year green card holder and need to know the best way to make this happen, which form we need to complete. Her permanent residence will be the UK. Would just like to bring her here for the winter months.

Any help will be much appreciated.

Thanks

hi

you cannot do anything, she will have an interview and she will have to prove strong ties to her country

they will grant or deny a tourist visa based on her own merits and proof that she must return to her county

What job does she have that awards a 6 month paid vacation to its employees?

When is your baby due?

She will face intense scrutiny as few people of working age have the means to take a 6 month vacation, nor could she have any strong reasons to return if she could so easily camp out for a half a year in a foreign country.

(and winter does not last for 6 months)

Presumably there is a lot more to this than you have posted, my Brother visits but the longest I think he has been here is 3 weeks.

Nothing more involved, she is on disability back in the UK, so gets paid directly to her bank account. so does not work. She is getting to an age where the UK(Scottish)winters are taking their toll, she normally comes on the VWP each year for the allowed 90 days(approx) We spoke to visitor we met in Walmart who said she was here for a 6 months stay and so thought we would ask what visa the person might have been on or if this was possible, the person was retired.

Thanks

Not relying on any walmart shopper advice, just asking a simple question. Is it possible or not? Simple as that, if it is possible, what would the visa be? This site used to be the place to go for all questions and help, when did it turn so cynical?

Understand that UK citizens are VWP authorized, which means obtaining long stay tourist visas of six month a pop is a hard one to get. Not saying they don't happen and that you can't try of course. Something not working in her favor is possibly proof of ties to return home and the ability to have enough finances for her duration of stay perhaps.

Thanks, maybe look into it, if possible, if not will stick with what we do at this time, when I have USA citizenship sorted will go through her green card process, luckily I have enough finances to sponsor her and have an extended apartment on my house for her. Thanks yuna628 for your reply.

She can definitely apply for visitor visa (B-2), however getting that visa is definitely difficult if not impossible. She has to provide enough documents to convince the CO during the interview at US embassy that she will return back to her country after visiting the US. Provided she is granted the visa (generally multi year visa), she can visit US for 6 months in each trip.

hi

unfortunately, you may file for her once you become a USC, but currently the wait is over 11 years

file for her as soon as you can, but know one knows what can happen to us in such a very long wait

Just to let you know that in case you want to go through her green card process after you become a US citizen, her entering US as an immigrant is 12-13 years away (per current visa bulletin) from the date you file a petition for her.
