Hi- thank you everyone for such informative advice and guidance! I am ready to send notification to the us embassy in london that I am ready for my interview but in 10 days I will be going abroad for 3 weeks - is this an issue? they have advised that the interview notification part will take 6 weeks to process which means I should be ok- my question is has anyone experienced otherwise and had their interview date sent freakishly early? I am worried it comes while I am away . I can't wait until I'm back to send it as I am working off urgent time scale to make the move ?

My second question is that I'm going to the USA for Christmas holiday in the midst of my K1 visa to move there. Is that a problem? I have return ticket and esta and all that sorted, just suddenly wondered if me going there for a holiday mid visa application is a problem!

Any advice would be gratefully received! Thank you all.

The holidays are a good reason to be visiting the US as a tourist so nothing suspicious about that. You can take some of your immigration documents like the letter from London and DS-160 confirmation showing you are near the completion of a K1 so have no reason to remain in the US past your holiday.

It does not typically take 6 weeks to get an interview letter. Maybe 2-3 is more likely. Then 3-4 weeks until the interview date. But some get a letter with an interview scheduled the next week. The timing is so variable that you can't plan around it. Here's a thread with some London times http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/549078-medical-to-interview-date-how-long-2015-data/?p=7883281

With the holidays for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years they could be slightly slower. I doubt your interview will be before January, but you can't depend on that. Take your chances.

You don't have to wait until you are back to send the readiness form. You can delay it or even send while away. What is your urgent time scale for making the move? What date? There is another London thread showing how long from interview to visa in hand. http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/550974-interview-date-to-visa-in-hand-how-long-2015-data/?p=7908712
