Wait ten days from the date listed on your card, so the social security office can verify it instantly.

So if your card is issued 8/7, wait until 8/17

Just to update:

I waited an extra day and went into the SS office today, the 18th.  I was able to apply with no problem and the lady who took my information confirmed the advantage of waiting 10 days.   She said I was in the system so she didn't need to verify anything with DHS and I'd have my card mailed to me within 2 weeks.

Thanks for the update @Lupigirl! I'm glad it went smooth for you.

You'll most likely have your card by mid week next week. Since your information is already in the system, your SSN will be processed and issued on Monday, and you'll have it by Wed-Thurs. You live in Arizona and the card comes from Maryland, so that usually takes 2-3 days.

- Removal of Conditions Timeline -

07/31/17 - Mailed I-751 package to California Service Center

08/01/17 - Package delivered to CSC

08/05/17 - NOA1 received by US mail

08/10/18 - Rec'd new NOA1 with 18 month extension instead of 12 months

10/15/18 - Case transferred to Nebraska

12/26/18 - ROC Approved

That would be great!  I'm doing job interviews and planning to start work September 1st, so it would be nice to have it before then.

Omg that was the worst thing!! I was in the same situation you were in. Some places wouldn't even let you do an interview without providing your SSN first. It was terrible.

Coming from Canada it shocked me. Because nobody asks for your SIN number until you are actually hired

I know!  Tell me about it!  I've had one interview already, and the guy had to call HR to make sure hiring a Canadian would be okay.  Then when he found out I have a USC husband, he was like, "Oh, that won't be an issue then.  You'll be allowed to work"😂

Here, that SSN is needed for bank accounts, driver's licenses, even online job applications want it, which seems ridiculous.  Heck, I couldn't order cable because I didn't have one!

Crazy eh! Its true though. I cant remember if we needed one to order the cable and the internet, but I had an issue like that too during a phone interview. We wasted seriously about 10 minutes arguing the fact that they'll have to sponsor me. And I kept telling them no!! My wife is American and I dont need sponsorship. Then he apologized but still. I think its crazy how worked up they get

Yep.  It's a process.  I have so much more empathy for immigrants now.
