Writing the NBC sometimes works

In October 2005, my wife and I sent the National Benefits Center a certified copy of our marriage certificate to replace the photocopy we submitted with the original application. Since Washington DC issues the marriage certificate with the license, the issue date on the original was before the date of our wedding. To be safe we thought we'd send a new certified copy issued after the wedding as proof the license was actually filed at the court after the wedding.

We got an interview notice from NBC in November, but nothing confirming whether the new certificate had been added to the file. I assumed that NBC scheduled the interview instead of trying to locate the file.

My wife and I were pleasantly surprised to find at our interview yesterday that the marriage certificate we sent in October actually DID make it into our file, so we didn't need to give the officer another copy of it.

I thought what we did in October might be a long shot, but it turns out it worked. Kudos to NBC for a job well done and being responsive to our request.

Oh yeah, I remember. Not to confuse other people... A regular copy of the marriage certificate is all that is needed. If they want to see the original they will request it.

Yeah, we would have been fine with a photocopy. What we did was entirely voluntary - it wasn't in response to an RFE.
