Christmas gift for spouse/fiance in the Philippines

I thought about buying something here and sending it via Fedex

I had mixed experiences sending stuff via FedEx. Sending books and documents was no problem but the retroactively-billed-to-my-credit-card 100% tariff/import fee on a digital camera was a shocking and unexpected lesson learned. Not FedEx's fault; that's just how it works when sending stuff there.

As for sending gifts, I searched online and found a florist/gift shop in my then-fiancee's town who was more than happy to take internet orders to deliver (in person) things like flowers and chocolate. The first time I worried that the web site might be fake but they ended up doing a great job.

Hmm interesting. Is remitly reliable? Am currently using xoom when sending remittance to family back home.

Yes REMITLY is good, I use it regularly, has better rates that XOOM to boot.

There is no fee with REMITLY if you use their 3 day delivery. If you do instant transfer there is a fee, but it is the same as XOOM's fee

Sent my fiancé a $100 gift last year. Cost me about $60 to ship it, and when it arrived she had to pay $100 in taxes. Just buy something online from the Philippines. There are companies that specialize in sending gifts from the USA, so no import taxes.

I tried it today, no more free even the 3 day delivery. :crying:

There isn't a fee for the 3 day transfer with REMITLY, just the exchange rate - which is still better than XOOM https://www.remitly.com/us/en/philippines

Save on fees

Only $399 for EXPRESS transfers in minutes. Pay $0for our ECONOMY 3-day transfers.
