I can, but I know from experience that my skin color speaks louder than my actions ever will.

What folks don't get is, all we want is to be treated like everyone else, no better or worse.

I get it. And its exactly what I do. And I'm white.

I believe you.

Some of us get it. If I knew you, I'd hope I'd judge you by your character and not your color.

Sadly, I wasn't talking about just you or white people in general. It's every race on earth. 17 different countries and I can honestly say I've seen the difference in how I'm treated against my white counterparts. Even when I'm leaps and bounds ahead of them in terms of dress or conduct, there's just no competition.

Honestly I'm just tired of being my negative brothers keeper.

I give you a more recent example.

Remember when we went out to that bar a couple of weeks back? That drunk white guy didn't know me from Adam, but he wanted to debate racial unrest with me. I didn't have to say a word, but based on my skin color we had to talk about race.

If he isn't, then my reputation precedes me.

It happens a lot when you're the only black person in the room, or better yet, when they feel comfortable asking you questions about black issues.

You'd be surprised how much this comes up with strangers.

I know right? I didn't even want to talk about it, but it was like, you're black so you have to have an opinion about Ferguson. Then he had to say I'm a redneck but not racist.

Remember when I said I was racist when it came to food? I think he was really going to record me and say this black man is racist!

I think its refreshing that you can have open honest dialogue with strangers

That's because I'm pretty easy going and most people that want to discuss this with me feel at ease asking questions.

I've learned that being angry and defensive doesn't work as well as understanding and compassion, specifically when it comes to race relations. As drunk as this dude was, it could go bad really quick if I did the whole angry lean on me speech.

He almost lost it when I made the racist food comment, but because I had jokes and everyone was laughing it defused the situation and he left in peace. Then we had to deal with the drunk Canadian dude who kept wanting to talk to Janelle... :ranting:

As I have said many times to you, you mistake racism for folks wanting to seek attention from the smoking women in your life .
