Officers were still encountering gunfire at a shooting in Colorado Springs, Colorado, more than two and a half hours after a shooter was first reported in the area, police said. "Still active officers are encountering gunfire," the Colorado Springs Police Department said on Twitter.

At least six people have been taken to hospitals in the area, hospital officials told CNN. Details about their injuries were not immediately available.

A shopping center in Colorado Springs, Colorado, was on lockdown Friday as police searched for a shooter near a Planned Parenthood facility there.

At least three officers were injured, Commander Kirk Wilson with the Colorado Springs Police Department told reporters. Officials at hospitals in the area said they were expecting the arrival of four patients, one of whom had a gunshot wound to the arm.

"We don't have the suspect yet and we do consider this still an active situation," Lt. Catherine Buckley told reporters. There could be hostages and there could be an additional shooter at large, she said.

"There are a lot of possibilities with this scenario," she said. "As I said, it is very active and we are working our way through it."

It was not immediately clear whether Planned Parenthood was the target of the shooting.

"We're not sure what the connection is to Planned Parenthood, but that was the original address we received for the call for service," Buckley said.

I am actually surprised we haven't seen more of these meltdowns from Babyboomers. I do not agree with his actions but instead of automatically saying gun control perhaps we should actually look at the shooter mentality and see what caused him to go off the deep end. The gun itself is just a tool same as a car, knife, hammer, or baseball bat, all of these tools have good uses and bad uses. I try to imagine what sets these people off and most of the times it is mental illness or ideological sometimes both. The sad truth being that mental illness will be ignored hoping it make it an ideological issue for the media and anti-gun activists. One must take into account that over the last 10 years almost everything that helped shape this man and his perception of right and wrong has flipped upside down and I think he just finally couldn't deal with the new society anymore. He grew up in a time when things weren't as complicated and people weren't as self centered as they are today. His world of mom, baseball, and apple pie has long since vanished. Today men become women, children get to choose the sex they want to identify with, terrorists are heroes, looters are social activists, patriotism is labelled domestic terrorism, aborted fetuses are commodities, and illegal aliens are given a heroes welcome. To top it all off, there isn't a single thing he could do or say without being labelled a racist, sexist, or a terrorist. Again, I am not saying that his actions were justified, I am putting one theory out there.

I suppose it is in some way nice that there is someone out there that can understand why this a-hole might have become the gun wielding a-hole he turned out to be, but the justifications you list at the end of your post have to be seen as nearly as twisted as the shooter himself clearly was.

Let's take "Patriotism is labeled domestic terrorism' as just one example. Are you referring to the bombing of the Federal building? How was that not terrorism? Can you please tell us what Patriotic act got mislabeled terrorism, at least in your mind?

Just bizarre, and I sincerely hope that you recognize that what this shooter did was only justify able to a very warped mind.

Do you use the 2015 latest PC definition/interpretation or did you actually try to remember what the definition/interpretation was back in the 70's. Since many of the things that are considered normal today had to have laws passed to make them normal, these were considered warped and twisted behavior in the shooter's formative years. If you had slowed your roll and actually read the opening and closing of my post I said I did not approve, but I imagine in your effort to valiantly protect the left and their effort to eradicate all guns you simply overlooked my statements and jumped straight to the attempt to label me as a nut case also. I know that you have already seen Obama jumping on this with both feet even before rigor mortis can set in to push his gun control agenda. In you understandable misconception of an entire generation, you fail to take into consideration that the boomers grew up during a period of social revolution, Vietnam war, women's lib, the right to abortion, sexual freedom, eco defense, and individual expression. In essence, there couldn't be a more anarchic pool from which to choose, and a more diversity-welcoming crowd. All the attributes you list are likely to stun those unfamiliar with American cultural values, or those who insist on interpreting our country through the lenses of movies and other Hollywood propaganda divulged around the world.
