Returning to the US temporarily-- what are our options?

Hello Canadian VisaJourney community!

I'm a US-born citizen/Canadian permanent resident, living in Vancouver with my Canadian wife, and I'm hoping you can help me out with something :)

I'm graduating from a Master's program here next month and I am currently applying for PhD programs in both Canada and the United States. If I were to get accepted into one of my top choices in the US, we might consider moving back Stateside temporarily and (too my horror) this of course means going through the ever-frustrating world of yet another immigration system. However, I am concerned that there may not be enough time to get through the process before programs begin in September.

With this in mind:

- How long does it take for the US to process Canadian visas? Would there be any chance of things moving faster given that we both lawfully reside in Canada?

- Are there faster non-immigrant visas that would allow my wife to accompany me to the US on a more temporary basis? We would expect to return to Canada upon finishing.

Thanks for your collective wisdom-- this is becoming a minor source of anxiety for me!

Also, to note, IR1 visa interviews are only conducted in Montreal.

Perhaps your Canadian spouse qualifies under the TN or maybe even an F1?
