Hey All,

My fiance is right now in the process of gathering everything he will need for his interview which is on April 4 !!!!! While he is doing that I also want him to start gathering things he will need once he gets here...I was wondering if anyone, whose people are already here, have any ideas on things he will mos def need when he gets here...Some things I have told him are: A few certified copies of B/C translated, University transcripts translated, possible medical history from family doctor?? Any other ideas from experience???

Thanks so much

Angela

I beleive it's been suggested to bring a copy of the med exam that was done for the interview along with proof of vaccinations given so that he doesn't have to redo it all when he gets here. Not sure if that's true for the K-1's but it's what was suggested for the K-3 peeps.

definitely bring the ds-3025 as that will have a major role in getting the vaccination supplement, i-693a, for aos.

Agreed on the DS-3025. Make sure your SO is very insistent on getting it. The doctors will not hand it over, even though it says right on the form "Give a copy to applicant", unless you are adamant about it. You have a right to a copy of your vaccination worksheet, and you don't have to pay for it. He can point out where it says that on the bottom of the form if there are any problems.

Also agreed on certified translations of the birth certificate. If he has any medical problems, a letter from his doctor explaining them would be helpful, but if he's healthy he really just needs evidence of his vaccinations. Make sure the passport is not going to expire soon as it will be a pain in the neck to renew it from the US.

The only other thing he really needs to make sure he brings is the envelope that they will give him when he gets his visa, which he will surrender at the point of entry.

All my husband brought with him were a certified translation of his birth certificate (along with the original), his DS-3025, and his envelope that he handed in at the POE. He's been here 1 1/2 years now and we haven't needed anything else. We already had a copy of his divorce certificate and a certified translation from when we sent in the K-1 application; if this applies to you, make sure you have copies.

Good luck, and congrats on your upcoming interview!!! Make sure he brings lots of pictures (those seem to be the most important to the COs), especially from different days and different visits if possible, and that he's insistent on showing them the proof he has. One last thing is make sure he doesn't refer to you as his wife... some people have had problems. And no jokes about marrying just for the green card. Also downplay his other connections to the States if he has any so that they don't think someone's paying you to marry him. These are just things I've gathered from some of the problems that have happened over the last 2 years since I've been reading VJ. I know they seem obvious, but sometimes people get nervous in the interview.

You ask for a copy of the vaccination supplement (they will not give you a copy of the medical) and this supplemetn is sued by the civil surgeon to transfer the vaccines to the AOS medical supplement.

Yep. For K-1 you'll want the vaccination sheet/history.

Unfortunately, I think it's VERY unlikely you'll get this in Casa. You have to be really forceful to even get the vaccination supplement. I think part of the problem is they don't have copy machines so it's a pain to give you a copy.

Angilla also made a good suggestion elsewhere to get a written reference for jobs, since it may be difficult once he is here to get it from where he used to live/work.

This doesn't have anything to do with legal stuff .. but... if he doesn't cook much..have him get recipes from his family so that once he is here he can have a little bit of home. It really helped my husband.

I agree on the job references .. make sure his personal phone book is up to date so he can contact his friends when he needs to...

some non-legal things:

while our medicine is pretty much the same, there might be things he likes that he's more familiar with, for example Doliprane is an effervescent form of tylenol, and I haven't been able to find anything like that here. All Eucarbon is an all-natural medicine that would be used in the same way we use pepto bismal.

if you live in a city with a small moroccan population (and no places to buy it), tea and a tajine would be good. Hamid considers the tea in our small shop in San Antonio to be stale.

you gotta have him bring some olives!

That's all I can think of right now!

timeline doesn't matter.
